Schwartz quits national Dem fundraising post

POSTED: Wednesday, February 27, 2013, 7:31 PM

Rep. Allyson Schwartz of Pennsylvania stepped down Wednesday as national finance chairwoman of the Demcoratic Congressional Campaign Committee for the 2014 midterm cycle, clearing a potential obstacle to her anticipated run for governor.

Party leaders named Rep. Jim Himes of Connecticut to take over the time-consuming fundraising job, according to Democratic sources in Washington Wednesday. Himes, a third-term lawmaker, represents the Greenwich area 4th District, one of the wealthiest in the country, and is a member of the House Financial Services Committee, considered a great fundraising base because of its importance to Wall Street.

It would have been impossible for Schwartz, or anybody, to juggle the fundraising post with a full-scale campaign for higher office.

[updated] DCCC Chairman Rep. Steve Israel of New York announced the change officially Thursday. In a statement praising Himes, he added, "I also thank Rep. Allyson Schwartz on behalf of our entire caucus for her work giving us a strong start."

The committee raised $6.1 million in January, Schwartz’s first full month on the job, compared to $4.4 million scooped up by the rival National Republican Congressional Committee. Both party campaign committees still are paying off debts from the 2012 election.

I voted for Onorato and I really dislike Corbett. But I'd chop off my right hand before I'd use it to vote for Allyson Schwartz.

    "The state economy is stable

What the h*ll does that mean?

"Corbett doesn't cater to the loud mouth entitlement clowns from Philly."

    Again, what does that mean?

    "Unemployment in PA is lower."

Lower than what? Not the national average.

    "Corbett balanced the budget."

Ah, that's not entirely accurate either. Take a look:

"I'd vote for him again, as will the rest of PA."

    Famous last words.

It's definitely a shame that "Othar of the Philly People" will change his screen name and disappear after Corbett gets tossed out in '14. The same thing happened to most of the rightwing trolls after Mitt Romney didn't win "in a landslide" lol.

Ugh, looks like I'll be voting Green party next year. Allyson Schwartz is the worst kind of pro-bank, pro-insurance industry, sell-out neo-liberal hack. Democratic primary voters should remember that she helped gut the public option from the healthcare law because she is a tool of private hospitals and insurance companies. Thanks to creeps like her, we will be forced to buy lousy insurance from the same companies who have been murdering their customers through denial of claims.
She voted for the Bush bankruptcy bill that makes it virtually impossible to escape predatory lenders.
Her only good quality is her support for abortion access, but her having run an abortion clinic makes her unelectable in this state.
I really hope that the Democrats nominate someone else who can actually beat Corbett and isn't a right-winger in disguise.

If she thinks she going to be using those same contacts for her own fund raising she is in for a rude awakening

Oh, so you'd vote for a communist before you'd vote for a "crypto-socialist"?
