Schwartz gets assist from only female Dem governor

Maggie Hassan is lonely.

Hassan, who was elected governor of New Hampshire last year, is the only female Democratic chief executive in the nation, “a distinction I wish I didn’t hold,” she says in a new email soliciting contributions to Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz.

More Hassan: “Next year, you have the opportunity to elect another great Democratic woman to serve as your Governor of Pennsylvania. I could not be more enthusiastic to join my friends at EMILY’s List and thousands of Pennsylvanians like you who are ready for Allyson to bring much needed change to Harrisburg.

The email was sent Friday, in advance of Schwartz’s annual Women in Politics fundraiser Monday evening at the Radisson Warwick Hotel in Center City. The gathering will have new urgency this year as Schwartz is running for the 2014 Democratic nomination for governor.

A Quinnipiac University poll released Friday found that Schwartz is the frontrunner in a crowded field, and has a 10-percentage-point lead over Gov. Corbett (R) in a hypothetical matchup.
