Rendell says Obama campaign 'went too far' on Bain
Thomas Fitzgerald, Inquirer Politics Writer
At this point, Chicago probably wishes somebody would just seal former Gov. Ed Rendell's mouth with duct tape already.
On MSNBC Friday, Rendell, a Democrat, said he thought that the Obama campaign "may be hurting the president's brand a little bit" with its attacks on Mitt Romney over the issue of when he severed his connection to the private equity firm Bain Capital.
"I think our supporters went a bit too far with the felony business," Rendell said.
He was referring to comments by Obama's deputy campaign manager, Stephanie Cutter, that Romney may have committed a felony by signing filings with the FEC that indicated he was the CEO of Bain for nearly three years after he said he left the company, in 1999.
That hit caused Romney's campaign to ask for an apology from Obama, which has not happened.
hahahahaha....Fast Eddie Spendell & Barack Obama....big taxing/ big spending loonies...perfect together. Hope & change, hope & change...forward. Fail. Again. kelprod2
kelprod - you seem to get dumber by the day. Anyway, It's odd - Rendell says this despite the recent bombshell by the Globe? I think it's pretty clear that Romney wasn't properly vetted by the Republican Party - I think they liked his look so much that they didn't really probe his financials - pretty sad really. This comment has been deleted. waterdog- Whoa. "Get a clue"? That's amazingly original. Did you invent that, or is it some sort of Regressive Party mantra? Because it seems to be Chapter 1 of the Regressive playbook on responses to any criticism of any Regressive, in any context, in any forum. Chapter 2, of course, is "Phony Outrage". Speaking of which, you clearly owe an apology to the American People for your outrageous comments. 1980
Funny that Rendell thinks it's the President's brand that gets hurt by this. These disclosures are the latest in a long line of examples where Romney says one thing despite evidence to the contrary. In every other walk of life this is called lying, and when you lie to the SEC (or under penalty of perjury in pursuit of public office) that's a crime. Yet he wants an apology?
Talk about entitled. Romney is a silver spoon whose greatest accomplishment was being born to the right family. Peter Fontana
Romney must be worried about something, because he's agreed to a record 5 sitdown interviews today (ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and Fox). Okay, Fox isn't a shocker, nor skipping MSNBC, but he's going to get hit with some real questions about the Globe article and Bain. daviddiano
Soundground is right. I'm a registered Democrat and WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree that Obama wasn't vetted at all. Our media covered for him more than any other candidate I've seen in years. We had a great candidate in Hillary Clinton, and we decided to go with Obama because he made us feel all warm and fuzzy.
Also, I think that the strategy of attacking Romney on what is largely unfounded charges of outsourcing jobs is going to end up in a disaster for us in November. The strategy of "say it often enough and it'll become the truth" is tremendously idiotic. JayDay
