William Hamilton, president of the conference, sent a letter to his 95,000 members across the state announcing the decision to back McCord. The Teamsters nod came two days after the official launch of McCord’s campaign.

McCord, 54, rose from relative poverty as a child to become a successful venture capitalist specializing in high-tech start up firms. He was elected treasurer in 2008, and reelected last year.

Eight candidates are vying for the nomination to take on the incumbent.
