Half of PA Voters Want to Dump Obama, Poll Says
Thomas Fitzgerald, Inquirer Politics Writer
If President Obama got a “bounce” from the killing of Osama bin Laden among Pennsylvania voters, the benefit has since melted away.
A poll released Thursday by Susquehanna Polling & Research finds that the president is “upside down” in the state, with 48 percent of voters disapproving of his performance and 41 percent approving. The negative rating is 3 percentage points higher than the firm’s same poll in March.
The big problem for Obama: defections among Democrats. Voters in Obama’s own party rate his performance at 61 percent positive to 30 percent negative – compared to March’s 69-21 percent ratio.
The automoated telephone poll of 1,406 registered voters statewide was conducted from May 30 through June 2, a time period that coincided with a flood of negative reports on the economy and turmoil in the stock markets. Not surprisingly, 50 percent of respondents said the economy in Pennsylvania had worsened over the past 12 months, while 16 percent said it had improved. Thirty-five percent rated the economy about the same as a year ago.
On the re-elect question, 43 percent of Pennsylvania voters say that Obama deserves a second term, while 50 percent say that it is “time to give someone else a chance.”
Wrote Jim Lee, president of SP&R: “The fact that 1 in 2 voters are looking for someone else suggests that President Obama has little room to grow and that Pennsylvania will again be a toss-up state in next year’s presidential election, particularly if the slow economic recovery continues to haunt the president.”
Susquehanna Polling & Research is a Republican-oriented firm based in Harrisburg, Pa. Results are subject to an error margin of plus or minus 2.6 percentage points.
Cool1 actually believes Obama got A's in college. Then why did he flunk out of his first, and why or why did Harvard ever accept an individual who flunked out of another institution? Maybe Barry will release his transcripts some day and we can see what he actually is. cb54
Keep up the Good Work OBozo... Just think in January of 2013, you will get a BIG raise after you move out of the white house.... truebluehen- I learned a long time ago it's a lot easier to criticize what you're against then it is to verbalize what you're for. If they asked those same 1,406 people who they are voting for many would not vote at all & the rest would be split between several other candidates, some of whom aren't even running. In other words Obama would still beat any of the announced candidates head to head. So while all the republican commenters are giddy over this news, they still have an unmanageable freak show going on in their primaries. mtairy1
- Barack Obama is a hand-picked, cleaned up and groomed Bilderberg puppet. That said, why anyone is still listening to this obvious liar and traitor of American democracy has to be THE question of the moment. I cannot understand why the American public continues to tolerate the legions of traitors that have infiltrated our government. Is their 'secret' agenda STILL a secret??? Is any real American NOT understanding what is actually going on??? Everyone of these traitors need to be charged with treason. Starting with Taxation Without Representation. Every 'secret' operation this criminal government has committed, and continues to commit, is supported by American taxes - operations which Americans clearly DO NOT support. Instead, they are being FORCED to PAY & SUPPORT this criminal nonsense. That is Taxation Without Representation. Didn't some people long ago revolt over that atrocity??? Anybody remember hearing something like that happening??? Hello???
- um, no.
it's not "taxation without representation" when your taxes are being spent on things that you do not approve of.

A Republican polling firm in the middle of the state makes less than two thousand automated calls, and comes up with these results. Who picks up land lines these days? Old people. Who would stay on an automated polling call? Old people with strong opinions. Talk about a self-selecting sample that will always overwhelmingly skew anti-Obama. Who ignores robo-calls and, usually, home telephones? Everyone else in PA, especially in the cities. Jeff West
It all comes down to what blackknight said.If your party trots out a Palin or McCain type again, forget it. Some of us who are democrats ( not the Pelosi type, more moderate) are willing to keep an open mind about a WORTHY Republican candidate. But your side has to elevate the content of the rhetoric. There are plenty of legit things you can criticze Obama for, but if you go with things like , 'he was born in Kenya', 'his minister is nuts', 'he's going to sell us to the arabs' etc., he'll win this election too. drbob1
I guess the Inquirer will be the last newspaper in the country to cover this afternoon's mass resignations of Newt Gingrich's entire senior campaign staff, including his campaign manager. 1980
Just shows how poorly informed people are. They are responding based on the condition of the economy with no understanding of why the economy is in the state that it is in. The stimulous was not large enough to turn the economy around at a faster pace. Why? The Republican's who created this mess blocked Obama's efforts. Obama has done more good for the average american in 3 years than Bush did in 8. I do agree that I'm disastified with his inability to acheive a single payer system but voting Republican would mean the potential repeal of the health care reform that has been acheived and that would truely sink Medicare and Medicaide. The big issue effecting the economy long term reamins: Out of control growth in the cost of health care. What's the Republican answer? Cut the spending and do nothing about the cost. That means the average american would be hit with all of the growth in cost going forward. Republicans would block all efforts to increase spending and to decrease the cost. We already spend twice what Cabada spend and four times what europe spends per average per citizen and we'd be looking at growth in cost outpacing inflation. Unsustainable but then it wouldn't be the governments problem it would be ours! MikeP
To clarify the truth that I stated in my comment above 'taxation without representation' has been, and is, in fact, occurring by means of the 'secret' US government committing Americans' tax dollars to the current wars it has illegally chosen to involve itself in. Whenever the Executive branch does not ask US Congress for approval to engage in war efforts, it is an unconstitutional action to proceed anyway. This is a brazen impeachable offense. One that Barack Obama will be facing come approx June 20th, 2011. The Libyan attacks at a cost to taxpayers of over $800 million initially, and $100 million per week thereafter is CLEARLY taxation without representation. THE MEDIC
Many Dems aren't for Obama because he hasn't been liberal enough. In a poll that shows in a lack of support.
In reality they will be voting for Obama because the alternative will be a self interested Big Business Republican who wants to cut taxes for the rich and cut SS, Medicare, and healthcare for everyone else. KINGOFZED
lol..who are these 16% who said the economy improved..? Wow. mdcd
The only person who can beat him is Hillary Clinton, and I do not think she will run against him in the primary. Romney? Mormonism is not even close to being a mainstream religion in the US, if you think that is biased, do a little research on the religion, it's out there. The rest of the republican lot are tea bagger dividers. Can or should Pennsylvania vote the way of Oklahoma or Mississippi? I hope not. bobcitydoc
Just wait till you all get a whiff of the alternative. More of the same failed ideology that got us here. The rethugs have no idea other than double down on failure. No Ids
"Dump" is too kind a term. Today he kissed the ring of a rogue country dictator, who has surpressed his people Pres. Bongo of Gabon. The press was not allow to cover the meeting, only a couple of still pictures. You are known by the company you keep. Shades of Rev. Wright. dogman5
