Half of PA Voters Want to Dump Obama, Poll Says
Thomas Fitzgerald, Inquirer Politics Writer
If President Obama got a “bounce” from the killing of Osama bin Laden among Pennsylvania voters, the benefit has since melted away.
A poll released Thursday by Susquehanna Polling & Research finds that the president is “upside down” in the state, with 48 percent of voters disapproving of his performance and 41 percent approving. The negative rating is 3 percentage points higher than the firm’s same poll in March.
The big problem for Obama: defections among Democrats. Voters in Obama’s own party rate his performance at 61 percent positive to 30 percent negative – compared to March’s 69-21 percent ratio.
The automoated telephone poll of 1,406 registered voters statewide was conducted from May 30 through June 2, a time period that coincided with a flood of negative reports on the economy and turmoil in the stock markets. Not surprisingly, 50 percent of respondents said the economy in Pennsylvania had worsened over the past 12 months, while 16 percent said it had improved. Thirty-five percent rated the economy about the same as a year ago.
On the re-elect question, 43 percent of Pennsylvania voters say that Obama deserves a second term, while 50 percent say that it is “time to give someone else a chance.”
Wrote Jim Lee, president of SP&R: “The fact that 1 in 2 voters are looking for someone else suggests that President Obama has little room to grow and that Pennsylvania will again be a toss-up state in next year’s presidential election, particularly if the slow economic recovery continues to haunt the president.”
Susquehanna Polling & Research is a Republican-oriented firm based in Harrisburg, Pa. Results are subject to an error margin of plus or minus 2.6 percentage points.
and the other half are illegals, folks on unemployement who don't want to find work, city and state workers who are lazy and shiftless, union freeloaders and those that that think because they exist, they think they deserve.......so pick your group folks.....are you a productive member of society who knows O is burying your grandchildren in debt forever OR ar you part of the worhless drek that lives on freebees and the earnings of those who actually work for a living. nuggett
We could solve much of our deficit problem by going back to the tax rates that existed at the end of Mr. Reagan's presidency. HenryFaley
cool 1, who pays for that "free" care? builditandtheywillcome
Hey Chester. It actually is. 1980- "Susquehanna Polling & Research is a Republican-oriented firm" ... would be helpful to know how the questions were actually worded.
And I'd also point out that if I were asked, I'd say I am not happy with the job he has done. But for completely opposite reasons than right-wingnuts would give.
It still will come down to can the Republicans offer a candidate that will motivate more voters to come to the polls than Obama can.
They seem to have forgotten the lessons of a few years back, when Santorum was tossed out and Lynn Swann never even really challenged Rendell.
Instead of realizing that was a repudiation (or refudiation as the clown princess says) of extreme right positions, they took it as a signal to move further right.
I have a feeling Pa. voters might well go for a Rockefeller Republican. But I don't see any of the current whack jobs winning the state. - OBAMAS Policies Suck Kevinmac

Comment removed.- I believe you meant "your grammar"??
dogman5 - You haven't read enough of jimmyjamsjames' comments to know that he meant exactly what he posted.
He was playing with the guy's error in not putting an apostrophe after Obama when the guy was using the possessive. So he plays with the possessive - your - and puts an apostrophe in which of course makes it a contraction and not possessive.
I guarantee that President Obama will be reelected, even though I'll be voting for a liberal. Republicans are just a disaster, and it's showing all over the country. Anyone with a modicum of intelligence never votes Republican. HandNik
@Henryfaley, do you understand that more than half the people who work do not pay income taxes. Also not everyone pays the employment taxes. Raising taxes is not a panacea for our current economy. My gosh, Tommy-boy you must be upset that your empty-suit-in-chief is only at 50%? Goes to show that the other 50% are Philly and Pittsburgh democratic drones. junethe4th
There's not one worker's pay in America not deduced for Income Taxes or FICA Taxes..... Where do you people get this nonsense, how many pay checks have you processed to make that claim in the duties at your place of employment? I'd be interested to know.
The Problems is that after taxes, most individuals in America earn comparable wages to the federal poverty level or below.

Cool1 actually believes Obama got A's in college. Then why did he flunk out of his first, and why or why did Harvard ever accept an individual who flunked out of another institution? Maybe Barry will release his transcripts some day and we can see what he actually is. cb54
