Dem Lebanon Co. commissioner runs for governor
Lebanon County Commissioner Joe Ellen Lintz is running for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.
The line of Democrats running for governor has grown longer, with Lebanon County Commissioner Jo Ellen Litz announced her candidacy Tuesday on the state Capitol steps in Harrisburg.
"I have a network of friends and colleagues across the state," Litz, who leads a statewide organization for county commissioners, said, according to the online subscription news service Capitolwire. "Not that I'm well known, but I think I have a shot at this. My heart is telling me to do it."
Lebanon County is ruby red, one of the most Republican counties in the state. FDR was the last Democratic presidential candidate to win there, in 1936.
Democrats seeking the nomination to challenge Gov.. Corbett include: U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz of Montgomery County; former Revenue Secretary Tom Wolf; former DEP secretaries Katie McGinty and John Hanger; and Max Myers, a Pentecostal minister from Cumberland County. State Treasurer Rob McCord is also considered likely to run.
Litz has served four terms on the Lebanon County commission, and is president of the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania, in which position she advocated for the Corbett administration's pilot program of human services block grants for counties.
