Clinton, Trump neck and neck in Pa.

First Quinnipiac poll of Pennsylvania since Donald Trump clinched the Republican nomination suggests a close general-election race with Hillary Clinton. She leads 43 percent to 42 percent.

Hillary Clinton narrowly leads Donald Trump in Pennsylvania, 43 percent to 42 percent, in a Quinnipiac University Poll released Tuesday that suggests a competitive general-election race.

"At this juncture, Trump is doing better in Pennsylvania than the GOP nominees in 2008 and 2012," said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the poll. John McCain and Mitt Romney went on to lose the state.

There's a huge gender gap in Pennsylvania, the poll says: Clinton has a 19-point lead among women, and Trump leads by 21 percentage points among men.

Clinton and Trump both have negative favorability ratings in the state, 37 – 58 percent for her and 39 – 55 percent for him.

Results are based on phone interviews with 1,077 Pennsylvania registered voters between April 27 and May 8, and are subject to a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. Both land lines and cell phones were called.
