Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota is in the Republican presidential contest as of Monday morning. Well, she was already in, but she got another bite of the publicity apple in rolling out her campaign with a formal kickoff in her hometown of Waterloo, Iowa.
Her old elementary school, church, favorite Dairy Queen and grandfather's grave were among the touchstones Bachmann used to evoke a more gentle time in America and to call for a return to Iowa values and limited government.
"I am so profoundliy grateful for the blessings I have received both from God and from this country," Bachmann said, and she wants to secure them for posterity. She also touched on all the Tea Party hot buttons.
Here's the Des Moines Register's story on the announcement.
