America to Congress: You stink
Congress has fallen to new lows in public esteem, according to the Gallup polling organization.
Dear Congress: We hate you. Yours truly, America.
Just about 8 in 10 Americans told Gallup pollsters this month that they disapprove of the way Congress is handling its job. Or rather, the way it is not handling it. Fifty-nine percent of those polled said their negative rating of Congress was because of its ineffectiveness and gridlock; the voters are fed up with the endless partisan posturing and lack of legislation that seems relevant to their lives.
More broadly, Gallup’s four-decade study of public confidence in major U.S. institutions found that trust in Congress had dropped to 10 percent. For the fourth straight year the House and Senate rated dead last among the 16 institutions measured in the trust survey. Congress’ ranking is the worst Gallup has found for any societal institution since the study began in 1973.
