Santorum's new 'pop up' Iowa ad focuses on family

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum launched a new TV ad in Iowa Friday that uses the old VH1 “pop up” technique to highlight his family: he’s been married 21 years; all his children were homeschooled (except for the dog); and he is better at passing legislation than a football to his sons. The ad also features little Isabella, who has a chromosomal condition known as Trisomy 18, and who has been an emotional focal point of Santorum’s anti-abortion message on the trail.

The pop-up political ad is a signature of John Brabender, the Pittsburgh-native media consultant who used it in 2000 to humanize Santorum in his first (successful) reelection campaign for Senate.
