Beautiful You: Should you use a toner?

There are thousands of toners out there, and finding the right one can feel overwhelming. What I look for is a toner that will cleanse and hydrate.

There are thousands of toners out there, and finding the right one can feel overwhelming. What I look for is a toner that will cleanse and hydrate. It should be used after cleansing the face at night and before applying a moisturizer. I also like to use it in the mornings in place of face wash. Put toner on a cotton pad and sweep across your face.

No matter how well we cleanse our skin, there will always be excess makeup/dirt we can't see. A toner gets rid of that. Avoid formulas that contain alcohol or high levels of fragrance, which can irritate skin.

Here are my three favorites:

1. Simple Micellar Facial Cleanser Water: The best and most affordable drugstore toner I have ever tried. It does exactly what it says — cleanses, removes makeup and hydrates. It is gentle enough for all skin types.

2. Peter Thomas Roth un-wrinkle turbo line smoothing toning lotion: This does everything that a toner should, plus it targets deep wrinkles and fine lines. It contains 18 antiaging properties, including vitamins A, C and E. Has a very cooling and hydrating effect. Great for all skin types.

3. First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads: A perfect, travel-friendly, premoistened toner pad. Sweep across face and neck to exfoliate, tone and brighten. I see a difference in my skin when I use this product. It's great for oily skin but can be used for any skin type.
