Beautiful You: Beauty 101: Splurge or save?

With lots of new beauty products coming out all the time, it’s hard to decide which to splurge on. We tend to assume that because a product is expensive it’s probably good, but that’s not always the case. Luckily, I’m here to help!

With lots of new beauty products coming out all the time, it's hard to decide which to splurge on. We tend to assume that because a product is expensive it's probably good, but that's not always the case. Luckily, I'm here to help!

Foundation: Splurge. Although I love some drugstore foundations, I recommend splurging. Foundation is your base, a product that sits on your face all day, so it's good to find one with high-quality ingredients. As a bonus, high-end foundations tend to have a larger color selection. Same goes with concealer.

Lipstick: Save. Lipsticks come in so many formulas and shades! If you enjoy experimenting with different looks, the drugstore is your friend.

Mascaras: Save. Since they tend to dry out quickly and need to be replaced every four to six months, save your money.

Eye shadow: Save. You can find many great ones at the drugstore. You'll have more fun experimenting with shades and textures if you aren't going broke.

Bronzer and blush: Save. With so many great drugstore bronzers and blushes in so many shades, it would be a crime not to try them!

Brushes: Splurge. The tools you use to apply makeup can make a huge difference. A good-quality blending brush, for instance, will transform the way you apply eye shadow. Take good care of your brushes, wash them often, and they will last you a lifetime.

Eyeliner: Save. From gels to sticks, the drugstore has so many great eyeliners you won't be disappointed.
