We'll have to enforce the law to find out what's in it

Nancy Pelosi's got nothing on Carole Aichele, who is Tom Corbett's Secretary of the Commonwealth tasked with enforcing the voter ID law:
Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth Carole Aichele, testifying Tuesday during a state trial on the state’s controversial voter ID law, said she wasn’t sure about the details of the law, but stood by her unsupported claim that 99 percent of voters had valid identification.
“I don’t know what the law says,” Aichele said under questioning, according to CBS.
Aichele also couldn’t provide any evidence that 99 percent of voters already have a valid form of ID, as the state has claimed. CBS reported that when lawyers cited testimony from a Department of State official calling the number likely inaccurate, Aichele responded “I disagree.”
The truth is that Republicans, including Corbett and his minions, have no idea what their law does, other than it's a magical-elect-Romney-machine. Meanwhile, the funny thing is that just yesterday the Daily News was bemoaning the lack of female lieutenants in the Corbett administration. Maybe the bigger problem is the lack of good Corbett lieutenants.
If this law disenfranchises blacks because they have to get an ID (as suggested in a DN editorial), why aren't blacks saying that they are disenfranchised because you need an ID to:
Get a job
Cash a check
Get a apartment
Drive a car
Go to a Doctors office/Hospital
Buy liquor
Go to the welfare office
Go to the airport
Etc
What is the real deal here? Race baiting? Seriously what is the real deal. Listen there are going to people with special cases, but 7 months is a lot of time to get that resolved. "Put on some big boy pants and get an ID!" Timo3004- This is a catch all law with subjective enforcement that can prevent voting from discrepancies in a middle initial, student address or divorced maiden name.
This will/can not be uniformly enforced in Rural and Urban PA.
The signature system was/is uniformly enforced.
PS: Letters were actually sent out for middle initial discrepancies. Nothing that you mentioned (though not accurate) jobs, checks even driving a car makes such a big deal out of a middle initial......This is another minefield of selective subjective enforcement: Just like a pretty suburban girl caught with a joint and an ugly urban male caught with a joint.
Cuddles - Cuddle those discrepencies can be fixed in 7 months and in lot of cases for free. How do you know that voting different systems will be enforced?
Seriously what is the issue here? If people want to vote they will get an ID. Timo3004 - No longer 7 months. These letters went out at the last minute last week (before that many didn't even know an initial could be an issue) in preparation for this very case. Thus your 7 months is now 3 months....
...Pending the next last minute surprise. Cuddles - Will the state order a (last minute surprise) purge based on middle initials? After all they did send out letters based on middle initials.
Florida 2000 had a similar purge erroneously based on the names of ex-cons.

Not even driver's licenses make a big deal out of middle initials and/or the apostrophe on O'Brien .....Hmmmmm, what is the state planning?

What, you think Tom Corbett (Trademark and wholly-owned subsidiary of Chesapeake Power) would hire COMPETENT females? Dude's insecurity (and incompetence) is only outdone by his complete ignorance of the Constitution. Which by the way, will be fully illustrated, again, when his second major "law" gets tossed in the trash. Hope there's enough room in the can for the Voter law, what with all the space his "gas law" is taking up in the trashcan. CiceroSpuriousDeodatus
Rufus - uh, are you aware that the "minority" franchise will be whites in about 12 years? Why do think the racist dbags and white-Jaysus-loving Amerkian Taliban are so intent on disenfranchising any "minority" they can, for as long as they can? But, unfortunately, the GOP is about as good at math as they are at understanding the Constitution. CiceroSpuriousDeodatus- Let's face reality. The problem is noit that the "disenfranchised" have no ID. The problem is that they have too many. If you get government assistance under two, three or more names, it's difficult to pin down one for using to vote.
If only the assistance agencies were a bit more mindful of their business, this mess would not exist. They have people getting monthly assistance checks under more aliases than John Dillinger had. DonQ
obamacare built the model!!!
Cicero-uh..tu eres un Ahole! So, in 12 (you're that good at math?? LOL!!) years you'll still be be standing up for the minority???...LOL!! sarah89
OPh oK, Sarah, sorry, it's 2040 - So your offspring (should anyone want to mate with you) will be minorities beholden to blacks, hispanics and asians. Make you feel better now? idiot. BTW - that's probably a good reason to start treating minorities like PEOPLE equal to the white trash running the GOP, don't you think? CiceroSpuriousDeodatus
The truth is that Republicans, including Corbett and his minions, have no idea what their law does, other than it's a magical-elect-Romney-machine.
That's THE only reason why they passed the law. It has nothing to do with preventing voter fraud. chasing history- Will the state order a (last minute surprise) purge based on middle initials? After all they did send out letters based on middle initials.
Florida 2000 had a similar purge erroneously based on the names of ex-cons.
