Washington continues to throw away millions of dollars on failed initiatives

POSTED: Tuesday, November 16, 2010, 6:41 PM

Washington's latest boondoggle: Extending the Bush-era Every Receiver Thrown Behind initiative -- another example of waste, fraud and abuse in the nation's capital.

But then, the Redskins are not the only D.C. area sports franchise to take the art of political metaphor to new highs..or lows.

The Nationals promised America that one man with virtually no track record but an amazing delivery could bring "HOPE" and transformation to Washington, and seemed stunned when things didn't work out like they'd promised their surge of new fans.

The Capitols are forever indebted to a rising foreign power.

And just like the Republicans on immigration, the Wizards believe that a large Wall can solve all of their problems.

Well, it looks like we’re stuck with the K-9 Torquemada. And McNabb helped to set another Eagles record – thanks, Donovan! Sunday night’s game should be interesting, though. I know I should hate Vick more than I hate the Giants, but I can’t help myself. Go Eagles!

Going to Sunday night's game. On a baseball note, Braves traded fro Dan Uggla.

Last night was the worst beating seen in D.C. in two weeks.

Gee Swifty, housing and education both outpacing the CPI. Who woulda thunk that two things the gov promised to make "affordable" actually skyrocketed.

More proof a fool and his money......That said, Dsmack and Fletch should be indicted on grand larceny. Poor Washington folks. Five years and 78 mil for high, low, behind and intercepted. Good to see ole' #5 hasn't lost the goofy grin or head shake when he messes up. That's worth a couple of mil for entertainment value.

Contrat might just be for show. If they cut him after this season, all he gets is $3.5 mil

"Good to see ole' #5 hasn't lost the goofy grin or head shake when he messes up." Oh, lay off McNabb. He's a great QB. What would you like him to do when he messes up, vomit? :)

Even a conservative magazine like the Economist was wrong about the GM bailout. They apologized to Obama. http://www.economist.com/node/16846494

GM's still a mess. They are years away from shedding all gov ownership, their most valuable asset is "goodwill", and their financial reporting is terrible. http://bltwy.msnbc.msn.com/politics/as-gm-tries-to-spin-ipo-red-flags-still-show-up-1667618.story

    Nice link, chasing history.

Found some nice stats that explode the myth of "fiscal conservatism" that GOPers and Tea Partiers like to fool themselves with:

Alaska gets $1.84 in federal spending for every dollar it pays in federal taxes.

South Carolina (home of Jim Demint), gets $1.35

Kentucky (home of Rand Paul, who doesn't want to give up those earmarks), gets $1.51

How about those Democratic blue states?

    New Jersey? $0.61

    New York? $0.79

    California? $0.78
