Waiting for Wilton

Well, now that we know that Mitt Romney won't be getting any closer to the Oval Office than Barack Obama's lunch table, that panicked Republicans are about to tax the 1 Percent and welcome millions of undocumented American immigrants, and Philly.com has a pot columnist, it feels like there are no more political worlds left to conquer.
So let's do something we haven't done moch around these parts. Let's talk about sports!
So what should we discuss, Philadelphia? The prospects for the final five Eagles games of 2012? The prospects for the first 25 Phillies games of 2013 without the stimulation of their catcher Carlos Ruiz (now one-half of the drug-comedy duo, Chooch and Chong)? The prospect that an ice hockey game will ever be played again? Or the ever-shrinking knees of Andrew Bynum (whose NBA gear is for some reason selling very poorly, although I hear his new pro bowling line is a big hit)?
Let's face it, it's reached the point where the best news of the day is waiting on the arrival of a man named Wilton (the one pictured on the left).
There's only one question left. Has there ever been a worse time to be a Philadelphia sports fan? (Maybe...1972?)
What is an "undocumented American immigrant"? fizzbin
Illegal aliens, description sanitized. Bob1
Question: If one is an immigrant in this country and is undocumented (read illegal), how can one be American? Doesn't being "American" presuppose at the very least legal residence in this country? Words matter, Will...really. fizzbin
All of these "undocumented American immigrants" could get a job at the socialized Chrysler Corporation making mediocre cars such as the Dodge Dart. FletcherT
Documents? We don't need no government's stinking documents. Just ask our founding fathers. montani semper liberi- Of course, one can also be an 'unAmerican' despite having documentation. Just sign a secession petition.
1/3 of all US welfare recipients in California. Yeah, immigration from south of the border is wonderful. teardownthisfishwrap
I don't mind a limited start-up welfare program for immigrants who go through the process legally. It can be viewed as an investment in the future. Laughable is the Left's attempts to keep technically qualified immigrants out because it will reduce the number of unskilled, uneducated immigrants from Africa. Once again the Left chooses diversity over competence. It is understandable as it mirrors their voter base but it is still laughable. 2ndNlong
Back to sports. On the bright side, I got plenty of sleep Monday night (who wants to watch an Eagles-Carolina game?) and I'm catching up on my reading on other Sundays. Thank you, Andy Reid. Hamlet
"I don't mind a limited start-up welfare program for immigrants who go through the process legally."
You don't mind? Well bully for you! That is the problem with a right wing minority. They think they have the right to tell the rest of us what to do.That's why they are always trying to steal elections (Hey, fellas, what happened this year?) and think the filibuster is SOP. Hamlet
What frustrates me about Philly sports is Reid should have been gone in '09 and perhaps we would be back in contention. Instead we have at least another 2-3 years before the Eagles get anywhere close to the playoffs. Getting Bynum and not hamming him play is also extremely frustrating. Just think how much better the 6ers would be with him in the middle. The NHL remains a joke of a league thanks to Betteman and all we have now is pitchers and catchers reporting in mid February. chasing history
"Once again the Left chooses diversity over competence."
I suppose you're talking about all the white guys fighting for the dishwashing jobs in retirement homes and the minimum wage labor-intensive landscaping positions.
What planet do you represent? wokmaster
I really can't understand Will's outcry to help "undocumented". They got here illegally. Meanwhile thousands wait in line to get here legally, but nobody is trying to help them become citizens any quicker. I'm not for just kicking every illegal immirgant directly out, but the notion that we need to be helping these people, and sympathize with, and put so much priority for people who are by definition criminals is crazy. There are a lot of things we need to fix to help our own citizens who are not criminals, no? Greg S- Greg - it's called pandering.
It's not about helping people - it's about winning elections.
michael_b - Seems you are out of step with the conservative talking heads like Hannity who now favor a "path to citizenship" for illegals.
chasing history - Pandering, like I said.
michael_b - Am I wrong, Monty?
michael_b
"What planet do you represent?"
And do you have papers to prove it? Hamlet
If the Eagles sell out or nearly sell out every home game what is the incentive for Jeffrey Lurie to spend more money to field a more talented team?
I wouldn't go back to a restaurant if every time I visit I'm dissapointed in the meal.

So, how many of you conservatives voted for Tea Party and Republican Representatives in the 2010 midterms??
The 112th Congress is set to enter the Congressional record books as the least productive body in a generation, passing a mere 173 public laws as of last month. That was well below the 906 enacted from January 1947 through December 1948 by the body President Harry S. Truman referred to as the “do-nothing” Congress, and far fewer than even a single session of many prior Congresses. wokmaster- Are you laying this miserable record ENTIRELY at the feet of republican representatives, wokkie?
michael_b - I lay the majority of it at the feet of the GOP and ESPECIALLY the Tea Party wing of it. The goal was obstructing the President's agenda. Across the rotunda, we saw a record number of filibusters from the minority party. Who's feet do you place that blame on, Mikey?
wokmaster - Agreed. Never have I seen a "movement" Implode as the Tea Baggers have.
chasing history - chasing - it's a self-fulfilling prophecy with these people. They campaign on "government is bad" and "government is broken" so when you have a 'do-absolutely-nothing Congress like the 112th, they just go on Fox and say "see, we told you so" and the sheeple blame it on both parties. It's a false equivalence. Just look at Mikey insinuating that Republicans and Democrats are equally to blame. Works every time.
wokmaster - I understood the TP strategy all along, defeat Obama at any cost and if we hold the recovery hostage, so be it because we'll win the WH in 2012. Funny how that all worked out.
But something really telling happened with the Romney campaign that got very little attention. Remember back in early 2011, the House Republicans wanted a balanced budget. Even if you agree with that idea, doing a BB after one of the worst economic meltdowns in US history was not even remotely possible. So Obama and the Dems used the '09 budget again and again.
But what was really telling is the TP backed a candidate who was going to borrow another 8 Trillion dollars through tax cuts and defense spending, and not balance the budget for another 8-10 years!
Hello, McFly! chasing history
"Are you laying this miserable record ENTIRELY at the feet of republican representatives, wokkie?"
I can't speak for Wok, but I am. The media has been talking about "congressional gridlock" as if both sides are being intransigent. And that was before the Tea Party (aka Koch Bros.) took over. Take off your ideological blinders and look at what's really happening. Hamlet
"What is an "undocumented American immigrant"?" They are known as the lifeblood of AZ and NM. Murrayman
I shake my head at the sides being played in the illegal/undocumented immigrant issue. On one side you have people struggling for survival and any glimmer of hope, and on the other you have a movement borne of political expediency. I wonder which side has more force? This country's history is filled with a certain peoples doing whatever they can to get here, and the previous generation's immigrants, and their progeny, showing outrage toward the latest group. It was the Irish, then the Italians and Poles, then the Lithuanians, and so on. Murrayman
"Has there ever been a worse time to be a Philadelphia sports fan?" Probably, but I don't recall it. This period will take its place in the annals, due to the weight of the Eagles' failure. 1992 was pretty awful. The Phils were 70-92, Tocchet was traded and the Flyers were mediocre, but Lindros had been acquired. The Sixers were wretched, having Doug Moe as coach, with Sharone Wright and Shawn Bradley on the roster, along with Charles Shackelford. Jerome had died, and the Eagles, having started the season with so much promise, ended up getting blown out by the up and coming Cowboys, wherein Erik Williams took Reggie and bent him over backward repeatedly and danced on his spine. Reggie was to heed God's advice and go to GB in the offseason, winning a SB there. You want to know what a truly awful Eagles draft looks like check out the 1992 draft. While you're at it check out the 1993 draft. At least Fletcher Cox and Vinny Curry appear competent. Recall anything about Lester Holmes and Leonard Renfro? Murrayman- "Hostess Brands Inc. is asking for a judge's approval to give its top executives bonuses totaling up to $1.8 million as part of its wind-down plans" . . . . . They must have a damn good union!
- I read that earlier. Now read the article about NJ lawmakers trying to raise the minimum wage to $8.50. The wingnuts on that thread, led by the densest and most miserable of the bunch (PWSChamps), are deriding the lawmakers for even considering such an adjustment. He even described the proposed increase as a 14% RAISE - yeah, raise, as in you've done a good job, you deserve a raise. Not a peep from any of them about the Hostess execs asking for these disgusting bonuses. It's unbelievable.
wokmaster
Well, let's see, they cut their salaries, stole their pensions, sandbagged their unions, and now they want whatever is left of the company to go in their pockets. Why don't they just ask a judge if it's okay if they burn down the homes of the Hostess workers? Hamlet
