Two favorites of Attytood commenters unite!

POSTED: Monday, February 7, 2011, 9:33 PM

This should get a gigantic thumbs up from the commenterati of Attytood:

Keith Olbermann, the former top-rated host of “Countdown” on the news channel MSNBC, will announce his next television home on Tuesday, and people familiar with his plans pointed Monday to a possible deal with the public affairs channel Current TV.

Neither Mr. Olbermann, his representatives, or executives from Current TV would comment on the move, but they did not deny that the channel, which counts former Vice President Al Gore as one of its founders, will become at least one partner in Mr. Olbermann’s future media plans.

Apparently Current TV is on TV .

RG, it's not hard to comprehend why Reagan ignored the AIDS epidemic until too late in his presidency. You've basically restated his "doctrine", i.e., the government owes no duty to the public when faced with a crisis it believes was created (at least in part) by immoral conduct (as such conduct is defined by the government). Your attempt to deflect it by calling out some wildly perceived hypocrisy by those who weren't even in power is too lame to comment on, but let's at least agree that such was Reagan's doctrine. Let's take it for a spin. Suppose Obama decides that all government funding into researching effective treatments for heart disease should be stopped because it's "mostly" caused by risky, immoral behavior such as smoking, gluttony, and lack of exercise. Would he be deserving of scorn or praise?

He'd be right. The government is not your parent. If you want it to be, than ban all potentially risky behavior, so you don't have to take from the responsible to pay for the irresponsible. But of course, that is where the left's "keep gov out of my bedroom" hypocrisy is exposed. BTW, I think bans and gov funded research are both wrong.

And then you'd have the right screaming "what business is it of government to decide how I should behave"? And then when people start eating lots of Tofu and healthy foods and the food industry crashes you'll be whining about government interfering in the market place and wrecking the economy.

While we both can agree that government has no role as a "parent" of the public, I still side with our founding fathers and view government's role to be the servant of the public, wherefore it has no business in my bedroom or yours. Anyway, I was hoping you would respond with the actual truth about Reagan's record on AIDS (ergo my reference to "myths" in my response to bats) which shows that he increased federal funding for AIDS research and prevention every year of his presidency. It was only his allegiance to the Moral Majority that muted his public concern for the problem, which took the life of his close friend Rock Hudson. Again, you fell for the myth, this time from the left. But, as Reagan said, facts are stupid things.

I was three when Reagan took office and was arguing a general point, not historical detail. Government as servant of the public, means that if enough of the public wants the government to ban a private personal action, then it should. government is meant to uphold rights and protect the minority against the mob.

Rauol - a much better stated argument and one I can partially agree with. If we get to September 8th, 2011 and this is all the House is bringing to the floor for a vote I will agree even more. I would think that legislation that is going to turn around the economy and cut the deficit will take much more time. The deficit will most likely not be addressed in any substantive way until Congress takes on the 2012 budget process.

What it is, is you lying. You claimed they were trying to outlaw abortion and legalize statutory rape, which is wildly wrong. They are trying to prevent taxpayer dollars from subsidizing abortions. Of course, this is more rank hypocrisy from the left. How can you claim abortions are a private chocie then ask that the government pay for them?

Rauol - just admit it you overreached on that one. The way you can tell that they are not legalizing statutory rape is that after this law passes - statutory rape is still a crime.

Reagan was responsible for AIDS as Obama is for the sun rising. The overwhhelming cause of the disease spreading in the country was through unsafe sex, contaminated blood transfusions and sharing drup paraphanallia-in other words, risky behavior. The gay community didn't want the bathhouses closed, CDC didn't want the blood supply tested and drug users continued to share needles. Nowhere in there do I see Reagan's footprints. The scientists made the call on testing. They were horribly wrong. Behaviour was responsible for the spread.Period.

Behavior the left has traditionally claimed was private and therefore off limits to the government. Of course, as soon as the disease spread, the left decided to blame Reagan and government for not doing enough. Amazing.

Reagan/Bush took a double hit on AIDS from activists. First the activists were screeching that FDA approval of new drugs took too long and the process was allowing people to die and then, several years later, the same activists were screeching that the fast-tracked drugs weren't completely safe and AIDS victims were being treated like guinea pigs. Some folks aren't happy unless they are angry.

Blaming Reagan for not doing anything about AIDS shows how hypocritical and contradictory the left can be. Obviously, AIDS is often transmitted via s-x. So after decades of the left trying to keep government out of the bedroom and peoples s-x lives, the left goes running to government to solve a problem that is , at least in alot of cases, the result of peoples a-x lives.
    RG

Also, many people seem to have hazy recollections of the 80's. AIDS was not (and never did) become a serious disease in the US. It's never been in the top 10 (heart disease and cancer account for 50% of US deaths). Funny enough, George W. Bush did more for AIDS in Africa than anyone else in the world, but the left considers him a war criminal. I dunno, but having a record of having freed 60 million people from tyranny, promoting democracy and rights for 10s of millions of women, and helping Africa gain a hold of its AIDS problem would be things the left would celebrate. Apparently not.

There's no spin. The left claims to want government out of peoples private lives, but you're crying that Reagan didn't do enough to stop people from having unsafe s-x, which is certainly a personal and private decision. Its tyical of the left, claim you want freedom, but as soon as something goes wrong run to the government for help.

BTW, Bunch, nice job on the HBO documentary, from what I saw. I had to catch the late show but missed half of it, depressed and tired after coming home from the 'Eers loss to Pitt. The one thing that sticks in my mind was Reagan's great quote about looking the camera in the eye. We can tell if you're lying???? If only they gave Oscars for leading roles in a political campaign.

Looks as though Current TV is trying to expand commercially, now with some former MTV guy running the show, and ComCast having a stake in it. Its always had excellent programming, winning a few peabodys and emmys. You might remember not long ago that two of its cub reporters were seized by North Korea for supposed espionage, but finally released to Bubba. Oh well. The future is still online, as HuffPo's takeover signalled the other day.

    Will,

Saw the Regan doc on HBO. Learned a lot about him and his false worship from the repubs. I thought the OG Bush was smart,at least smarter than his son, but that documentary disproved that. However it did confirm that he was just as evil as his son. Who nominates a exCIA chief to their VP? how did that happen? Back when Regan got shot was there any conspiracy about Bush being behind it? He seemed like a shady guy, with the Iran Contra and all the lies he told to America. Also where was your name in the credits? I didnt see you listed.

Hey guys - I went to school with Kool Keith. We wrote for the school newspaper, he was the editor nad I always wanted to one day grow up and be accepted by Kool Keith!!!!!!!!

As for MSNBC reporting "facts" - they seem to be cramming that you can keep your insurance and docotor and that costs will not go up lie down everyone's throat - yet the own White House commission investigating said three weeks ago that those two statements were both false. But you are right Hickey - why let facts get in the way of your agenda. If MSNBC reports it, it has to be true, they deal in only fact based logic. By the way - when are we going to talk about the GE plants closing in this country after they outlawed those evil incadescent bulbs? I love that the GE genius who has taken the company stock to the toilet during his entire reign is now the economic czar of the administration. My first act is to close GE American lightbulb plants, so as to ensure another $0.02 drop in the stockprice.
Also for the queen of Fitness Michelle who wants all of US to eat healthy and should be restricted on the size and types of foods we get. Seems the White House Superbowl was full of some healthy sausage, burgers, chips, dips, lager, etc. you know "good stuff"

Exactly right. Polling indicates that by wide margin, independents consider Fox News to be the least trustworthy source for news among all major networks, including MSNBC.

Which is why it's hilarious to see Attytood extremists, who laghably describe themselves as moderates, get hernias straining to create a false equivalence between someone like Glenn Beck and someone like Maddow, or even Olberman.

With that kind of reasoning, no wonder they vote Republican and idolize Rand Paul.

She did not repeat this "multiple times"; she stated it on her show on a Monday and on a Wednesday issued this apology: "On Monday, I said that Mr. Stockman's notice from the militia movement about the Oklahoma City bombing was advance notice. It wasn't in advance, it was right after the bombing. I apologize for the misstatement. It was an editing error and it was mine alone." Trying to imagine FOX News EVER walking back a statement when they've been in error. As to Olbermann's "Nazi salute", it a)was something he did when he wasn't on air, and b)was based on his personal opinion of O'Reilly, not a case of making things up. RG strikes out again. That silver spoon education isn't doing you much good.
