Tonight: Your chance, finally, to get in my face

POSTED: Tuesday, September 7, 2010, 11:36 AM

Everyone's welcome tonight -- even if you want to just stroll in, tell me where to go, and walk right back out -- when I sign copies of The Backlash from 6 to 7 p.m. tonight at the Barnes & Noble on Rittenhouse Square in Center City (Philadelphia, for you out-of-towners), which is at 1805 Walnut Street to be exact.

See you there (here are the details) and if you're nice about it maybe we'll all go out for a beer afterwards and talk about...the Phillies?

I'll try to make it, Will. I don't live in CC anymore but I pass by it on the way home. Hey did you hear that Terry Gross interview with the journalist (forgot her name) checking out the connections between the Koch bros. and the Tea Party's funding?

BTW, I listen to Fresh Air via podcast so I don't know when it aired (last week, I think)

Jane Mayer from the New Yorker, a great journalist. I was actually in the car that afternoon and heard most of it. I mention the Kochs and Americans for Prosperity in the book! :-)

Mayer, that's it. Take a message, Swiftie, I'm a very busy man.

Mayer's expose on the Koch brothers was poor journalism. She potrayed them as covert ops, meanwhile their support for free markets has long been known. Of course the left ate it up, as they are insanely preoccupied on how others spend their money,

    Astroturf IS covert ops, RG.

The only thing more boring than Fresh Air is liberals discussing Fresh Air. Will would have had his signing between 5 and 6, but that's when Glenn Beck is on.

"Astroturf IS covert ops, RG." No its not. And Mayer never conclusively tied them to the Tea Party. A bunch of innuendo, plain and simple. The Kochs' support for small gov is well known. They did not create the tea Party out of thin air, no matter what you'd like to believe.

"The Kochs' support for small gov is well known." Yes, that's why they take hundreds of millions of dollars in government contracts. They don't support small government, they just want their businesses unmolested by government regulators. But it's nice that you stick up for these sweethearts, RG.

That's right RG, because ordinary Tea Partiers would be too stupid to care about who's underwriting their movement, right?

"Yes, that's why they take hundreds of millions of dollars in government contracts." They're businessmen. Of course they're going to look to profit from the system in place. Keep trying to pin the unpopularity of the left's policies on some big corporate boogeyman, though.

How does one underwrite a protest? Do you honestly think that the TPers would magically like Obama and his policies if it weren't for the Koch brothers?

"Keep trying to pin the unpopularity of the left's policies on some big corporate boogeyman, though." Huh? Almost all the government policy that has been put into effect for the last 30 years has been from the right. What are you talking about????

"Almost all the government policy that has been put into effect for the last 30 years has been from the right." Yep, the right pushed hard for the unpopular hc reform and dog and pony show financial reform. They're also the ones blaming the deficts on tax cuts and are pushing for a repeal.

Yes, the US governement started on January 20, 2008. NOTHING happened before that (according to the Tea baggers).

I hope everyone is civil and cordial to you Wills, unlike the euro-leftists throwing shoes and eggs at Tony Blair, fascists that they are.

WOW, now that I think about it, what a compelling idea for a future blog, so full of irony and cross themes. Liberal right-bashing niche journo goes to a book signing and finds cordial right wingers exchanging ideas in contrast to egg throwing violent lefty-fascists drowning out a brother author, Tony Blair. Gold.

I notice one regular is conspicuous by their absence today - can somebody check the Barnes & Noble to see if anybody is camping out so they can be first in line.

Les - don't worry I'm sure the B&N has metal detectors - now if it were a suburban location that would be a different story.

Will, I'd love to be there but I can't. My orders came through. My squadron ships out tomorrow. We're bombing the storage depots at Daiquiri at 1800 hours. We're coming in from the north, below their radar. I can't tell you when I'll be back, though. That's classified.

==]] Yep, the right pushed hard for the unpopular hc reform and dog and pony show financial reform. ==]] RG never fails to amuse. Apparently he forgot that actually, yes, "the right" did push hard for healthcare reform very much like that which passed, only a few years ago. Simply amazing what Obama derangement syndrome does to the memory, eh?
