These were our children

POSTED: Friday, July 20, 2012, 9:57 AM

There are simply no appropriate words to express either my grief -- our grief -- over the senseless deaths, injury, and trauma in Aurora, Colo., today, or the despair that such evil exists in our world.

JMC you are already late with the countdown. On Good Morning America, ABC News' Brian Ross and George Stephanolpoulos suggested that the Tea Party might be connected to the mass shootings early this morning in an Aurora, CO theater during a screening of the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises.Doesn't this qualify as hate speech?

I saw that too. What has to be going on in someone's head that when something horrible like this happens, the first thing they do is try to link it to the people that disagree with them politically?

Watch how fast the political angle by the political opportunist sicko's on the left and in the media gets ignored once it is found out that this wack job was a registered Dem. Just like it did when Gabby Giffords was shot.

Years ago there was a place nicknamed the "Norristown Nut House" where all folks like this would be placed for a long time and BEFORE they had a chance to do any real damage. Thanks to the Libs who said it was "discriminatory" the nuts now roam the streets and the "Nut House" has less than 170 "criminals" in it and they want to turn it into a farm!!! Classic Lib way of doing things while they sit around in their 5 Star restaurants sipping the expensive wine, feeling good about themselves, blaming it on Rush or maybe Bush!!!...LOL!!!..CLASSIC!!!

We have the second political post, blaming all those libs. Hey, nutcase, the real reason was the conditions where deplorable and the conservatives saw a chance of not footing the bill and left them lose.

Additionally, it is your candidate who has a wine cellar and car elevator. Moron!

"Imagine, if 10-12 other people were carrying assault weapons they could have prevented this." . . . . . . Perhaps Mr. Holmes was simply protecting us from "brain dead" people who don't bear arms, and who would therefore endanger us by not being able to stop the likes of himself. I feel safer now.

First off this is a horrible tragedy and it's heartbreaking for the families. But how come every tragic incident has to have our narcissist in chief say "That could have been Sachia and Melia." Or the classic "Trayvon could have been my son." IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU OBAMA. If this kind of thing isn't evidence that this guy thinks of no one but himself I don't know what is.

I believe that when the president says this, he is not being egotistical. What he is saying is that he has children and that he can feel empathy for the victims. He has never lost a child to violence. Neither have I, and I pray that neither one of us ever will. I believe that the sense of loss would be greater than I can imagine, and the one individual I know who has experienced this has told me that it is a thousand times worse than one can imagine. The president is saying that he is a human being with human feelings and has some appreciation of the pain being experienced. To call these statements narcissistic requires a mind with substantial deficits of reason and insight and a surfeit of irrational hatred of the speaker.

all our prayers are with the victims and families.

Before we jump to any conclusions, we have to find out what his motive is and how he obtained the weapons.

I guess you can blame the govt. They provided the roads, taught the shooter, etc.

Whenever this happens, we're again forced to ask how do we keep deadly weapons out the hands of people like this, such that the rest of us are free to keep and bear them responsibly or enjoy the liberty not to? Is this the price of freedom under the 2nd Amendment? I doubt the Framers intended it that way, and we must assume they did not foresee that individual firearms would become as lethal, accurate, and powerful as they are today, or that we would develop into a society in which the depiction of deadly violence is acceptable entertainment. When the Colt revolver was invented in the 1830s, Georgia passed the first handgun ban which was quickly ruled unconstitutional. That didn't stop laws denying the right to bear arms to emancipated blacks in the South after the civil war, but gun control remained confined to that until the 30s, when the depression era gangsters terrorized banks in the heartland, and federal gun control was born. It doesn't seem unreasonable at this stage to require all purportedly lawful gun owners to obtain a clean bill of mental health by undergoing annual psychological testing as a condition of bearing arms, to insure against dangerous personality disorders. I would think any responsible gun owner would support this. We may yet preserve one of our most basic freedoms, with a little common sense.

For once Bunch, thank you for once actually demonstrating the ability of classic journalism which omitted any political bias. I will be pleasantly surprised if you choose to refrain from irresponsible and reckless commentary afterward such as NBC and other media outlets who are disgusting and revolting in somehow linking the TP to this horrific tragedy. They should be publicly admonished and make a public apology. Beyond taste.

"Good to see you're blaming limbaugh" . . . . . Actually I didn't, but my point is that his reckless rhetoric can come back to bite him when unforeseeable horror occurs, drawing attention to his vitriol beyond the comfort of his narrow-minded audience. Call it karma. I believe Palin learned her lesson, perhaps Limbaugh will finally learn his. Such is the function of free speech in an open society - it comes with its own checks and balances. That's not to ignore that hate speech can also incite violence in disturbed minds, and Oklahoma City still stands as testament to that.

This was a horrible senseless tragedy and the president needs to come up with a better speech. This is at least the 3rd time he's used

Or is the Tea Party mentality that if you're not one of them, you must be the Left? By that measure, we're a Leftist country by overwhelming numbers. Really?

ABC hardly qualifies as the left. It is factually challenged people like yourself that fill our discourse with hate and create monsters like Holmes. Facts are Facts. ABC reported it wrong and clarified. Unfortunately that makes them liberal in your world, you know admitting when your wrong. Do us a favor and go back to mommies basement col factless! - "Conservative sites such as Breitbart.com were predictably outraged by the bogus link, seeing in it a case of liberal media bias. But that indignation is perhaps undermined by Breitbart blogger Joel Pollak’s own unconfirmed “exclusive” headline that Holmes “could be a registered Democrat.” - from slate
Again this should be about 12 people getting killed by a lunatic. Not the lunatics that Troll this site but close.

The only difference between a gunman murderng 12 people in one place and the weekly toll of roughly that many murders in Philadelphia is the time and place spread. The human loss is the same. This, and the fact that the victims here are, indeed, OUR children.
