The video the Pentagon didn't want you to see

In 1971, when majority of Americans were turning against the Vietnam War, we had the leak of the devastating Pentagon Papers. Now, in 2010, with Americans still waiting for our equally senseless military action in Iraq to finally end, that war has its own Pentagon Papers -- a video called "Collateral Murder" that shows the 2007 slaughter of two Reuters news employees -- including one carrying a camera that is mistaken for a rocket launcher -- and other civilian bystanders by American war helicopters. I do not in any way blame the American troops who were placed in the middle of a war that never needed to happen. It is George W. Bush and Dick Cheney -- still held unaccountable for their crimes against humanity -- who have this innocent blood on their hands. President Obama has promised to end this war -- he must do so as quickly as possible while ensuring the safety of the departing troops.

And every American needs to watch "Collateral Murder," heartbreaking as it is.

One more thing -- God bless the people at WikiLeaks for getting this kind of information out to the world. The issue of government secrets is just as sensitive today as it was in 1971, but the reality of our actions in the world -- and not the santitized version that the people in power want you to believe in -- is information that U.S. citizens must have, and we cannot afford to err on the side of caution.

Will, you have no standing to opine about anything military. I am sure that there are videos of Afgahanistan currently being filmed, that the Obama administration doesnt want you to see. And by your logic, the American people are to blame, as they put the former administration in power in 2000.

This is what happens when our troops are in a place that the U.S. has no business waging war.

"Why cant you liberals stop blaming bush.." . . . . Because real conservatives were right. Read John Hostettler's "Nothing for the Nation: Who Got What Out of Iraq".

"Unfortunately, you can't blame the previous admin for it." . . . . . Perhaps RG, but the question that will haunt this nation for decades is the price of neglecting the mission in Afghanistan to invade Iraq.

Billy, you can double that figure when you factor in just the long term costs to taxpayers of caring for wounded vets. The overall cost of the Iraq War to the economy was, by a conservative estimate 2 years ago, to be at least $3 trillion. Compare that to Cheney's pre-war estimate of about $80 billion.

"..still held unaccountable for their crimes against humanity" Sounds like pretty inflammatory rhetoric to me. I'm concerned for the safety of Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney. I think Will Bunch, and everyone else who shares his ideology should be watched closely. This could really stir people up. Who knows what could come of this kind of talk Will is engaging in.

"Perhaps RG, but the question that will haunt this nation for decades is the price of neglecting the mission in Afghanistan to invade Iraq." If you haven't noticed, civilians are being killed in Afghnaistan and their population doesn't want us there, either. But if it makes you sleep better, you can blame the recent cover up on Bush's neglect.
