The War Between the States, continued

A couple of readers questioned it recently when I mentioned something along the lines of a coming civil war in America. I want to be clear -- I'm not picturing something like the scene above, in which the Grand Army of Berkeley marches upon the grey-coated Confederate Forces of Tempe in a wide-open, dusty field outside of Yuma (although that would be interesting to cover, if I could dodge the cannonballs.)

No, I'm talking about things like this:

An Arizona utility commissioner said he's willing to pull the plug on Los Angeles if the city goes through with a boycott of his state.

In a letter to the city of LA, a member of Arizona's power commission said he would ask Arizona utility companies to cut off the power supply to Los Angeles. LA gets about 25 percent of its power from Arizona.

In the 1860s, there were vast differences between the North and South over everything from economic issues to the role of federal government, and how to treat people with a different skin color from the white majority. Today....well, the same, really. This time, I wouldn't expect bloodshed, but the War Between the Red and Blue is going to get worse before it gets better.

And while this is one rogue state commissioner, I'm guessing, the threat of pulling the plug on Los Angeles is very real. Have you ever been to Arizona? The state is chock full of power lines...all heading west.
