The Wall Street Journal editorial page said this

POSTED: Thursday, November 8, 2012, 8:16 PM

Normally, this would have been a "Who said it?" but it's too late in the week. This isn't completely shocking, since the business wing of the GOP, which the WSJ speaks for, has always desired immigrant labor, and there's always been a split between that bloc and the more nativist rank-and-file talk-radio wing. But still:

Mr. Obama created a potentially fruitful opening to the GOP when he failed to do anything of the sort legislatively in his first term—a failure for which he was repeatedly scored in his September interview with Univision. A nimble GOP adversary might have seized the opportunity to present himself as the real immigration reformer.

But not Mr. Romney, who often pandered to his party's nativist wing (especially after Texas Governor Rick Perry entered the primaries), even endorsing what he called "self-deportation." That may have endeared him to one or two radio talk show hosts, but it proved a disaster on Tuesday.

And not only with Hispanics: Exit polls show that Asian-Americans went for the President over Mr. Romney by a whopping 73%-26%, an 11-point improvement over Mr. Obama's margin in 2008. How many other non-white groups can the GOP lose and still consider itself a national party?

No doubt this editorial will provoke letters denouncing us for being soft on the issue. Now is an opportune time to ask those disapproving readers how many more Tuesdays like this one they'd care to repeat?

They were followed in short order by Sean Hannity:

Sean Hannity said Thursday he has “evolved” on immigration and now supports a “pathway to citizenship.”

Hannity told his radio listeners Thursday afternoon that the United States needs to “get rid of the immigration issue altogether.”

“It’s simple to me to fix it,” Hannity said. “I think you control the border first. You create a pathway for those people that are here — you don’t say you’ve got to go home. And that is a position that I’ve evolved on. Because, you know what, it’s got to be resolved. The majority of people here, if some people have criminal records you can send them home, but if people are here, law-abiding, participating for years, their kids are born here, you know, first secure the border, pathway to citizenship, done.”

Frankly, I find this turn of events rather stunning. I guess necessity is the mother of...evolution, or, to invoke two cliches in one sentence, elections really do have consequences. The GOP hierarchy wants this issue to be forgotten by 2016, so it's a lock that something will get done in the next year. Let's hope it's a real solution \for 12 million Americans who work and contribute to society, but without documentation.

I enjoyed watching Hannity and Colter last night. Abbott and Costello got nothing on them!

Having lived in So Cal and traveled to Mexico City for work often, I can say that everyone needs to see WHY Mexicans come to the US.
Unlike these Liberals who have never interacted with a Mexican, but know everything about them, I actually have real Hispanic friends and I am a republican.
I know- liberals think they know as they sit in Philadelphia petting their effeminate cat while sipping bad port wine and watching re-runs of the Love Boat.

Seems Manny has much "lib" interaction, too. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

That's exactly what I do every Saturday night. Are you spying on me? Moron. How does WHY they come to America have any impact on if we should make them legal citizens. Are you suggesting they are all criminals? or are you suggesting they come here to lead lives that are lived in the shadows, paid under the table with no rights? Otherwise I fail to see what difference you are trying to highlight to the cat owning, wine-o Love Boat watching people who are trying to legitimize their residence in this country...

Wow we have rysgar opining on how every liberal wants a "free Obama phone", Manny Trillo declaring he "knows Mexicans" because he has some Mexican friends and Georgel saying that they lost the election because Mitt is a "RINO". Lol. Anyone want to guess the over/under on their combined IQ? I'm setting the line at 99.

Here's the other beauty I've been reading and hearing from the conservative pundits for the last 48 hours: "We need to embrace Latinos because they share our values". Think about that statement for a moment. It's wrong on so many levels.

First of all, what are these "values" which they are speaking of? Is it wanting those that can't afford healthcare to die (cheers during the GOP debates)? Is it booing an active member of the military who happens to be gay? Is it questioning the President's religion and citizenship? Is it forcing a woman to bring a "rape fetus" to term? Is it having those who were either born with a silver spoon in their mouth or those that have more money than they could ever need to pay less taxes? Is it knocking down the wall between church and state? How about engaging in foreign wars with nations which never attacked us? How about electing candidates to Congress who run on platforms of 'no compromise'? Do these values include deriding Mexicans who work for practically nothing and do jobs that most Americans won't touch? How about paying women less for the same job a man does?

    Some values.

And what else does it mean when conservatives say that "Latinos share our values"? Doesn't that imply that African Americans don't?

I both hope and believe that the GOP has alienated the majority of Latino voters AND African Americans for a generation or two. And deservedly so.

Values such as hard work and entrepreneurialism. People that came here seeking an opportunity to work for themselves and to improve their lot in life. Also an orientation to family and general social conservatism.

Think they value the GOP's ploy of attempting to suppress their vote?

And what are the values of the democratic party again, aside from voter for tax increases to be paid by somebody else? I know they also support the ability to still abort a child that was accidentally born after a botched abortion, something that I'm sure goes over well in all communities.
