The Tea Party wages war on democracy in Pa., and it's winning

POSTED: Tuesday, June 21, 2011, 10:13 PM

The right wing won the 2010 election, fair and square, the way elections are supposed to work. So why are they gaming the system, re-writing the time-honored rules of democracy to give their side an unfair advanatage? Their beloved Founding Fathers (top) must be spinning in their graves. The voter ID bill that's wending its way through Harrisburg -- which would disenfranchise thousands of legitimate voters to catch four or five cheaters, if that many -- is a disgrace:

Doug Hill, the association's executive director, said none of the counties has reported even a suspicion of significant voter fraud.

"It just doesn't happen the way supporters are claiming it does," said Hill.

State figures show that of the nearly six million people who voted in Pennsylvania in the 2008 presidential election, just four were convicted of voter fraud.

Near the end of the article, a high ranking public official, House Majority Mike Turzai, raises a red herring, statiing with no proof that ""We have reports of thousands of false voter registrations during every big election cycle." I doubt these numbers are true for Pennsylvania but more importantly, voter registration fraud -- that's typically when people who are getting paid to sign up new voters make some names up to get more cash for themselves -- has nothing to do with voter fraud, the problem this bill claims to address. Turzai is playing a dishonest game of bait and switch. If he can't produce "reports of false voter registrations," he's lying to the people of Pennsylvania and he needs to be censured.

It comes as no surprise to me that a flaming lib seea a problem with verifying who a voter is before letting them in the voting booth. If it wasn't for fraud (JFK is a good example)how would dems win elections? Ever heard of the Sec. of State project?

The fraud in Florida and Ohio where similar, it dealt with Republican Secretary of States purging voter registration roles of any individual who's name matched that of a convicted felon, without verifying that these where the felons thmselves. Their were half million in Florida and three hundred thousand in Ohio and that to the allocating more voting machines to republican district and fewer to democratic districts. This is institution fraud.

Your argument is that "it has never needed to happen ever before"? What kind of an argument is that? It is obvious that voter fraud was rampant in the 2008 elections, thanks to ACORN and other groups. Compound that problem with the fact that some states stupidly issue driver's licenses to just about anyone who shows up (the state of Washington comes to mind here), and these driver's licenses are in turn used as identification for voting. Why do you have such a problem with citizens expecting that only citizens should be able to vote? This is not a racial issue, it is an issue of citizenship. People who shouldn't be here in the first place definitely shouldn't be voting in our elections!

But in 2005 Jimmy Carter was part of the Election Commission that amongst other things recommended gov't issued ID requirements for elections....I mean it's Jimmy, you know.

I'm all for the bill. What, the Democrats can't rig the votes in the big cities anymore?? What's the point, even stupid voters can't be stupid enough to elect Barrack Hussein Obama again. I'm sure they'll be another ACORN out there to try and pollute the next general election.......

The law will disproportionately affect the elderly, handicapped, and minorities. It will result in fewer votes from citizens who fall into those categories. Ostensibly, the point of the bill is to prevent voter fraud. In reality, it will not reduce voter fraud in any significant way.

    You boyz are hilarious.

Let me understand this - Promoting voter disenfranchisement or thousands of voters is a good thing how? Why I despise most of the 'conservatives' today. They aren't for personal liberty/freedom or small gov't in reality. More than happy to use the gov't bully pulpit to legislate their social and moral agenda on Americans, use the rubric of 'security' for massive intrusions into privacy, and spend massively on causes they see fit. Mostly frauds with a few exceptions.
