Looks like another American got the pink slip tonight -- Brad Lidge.
Well, we'll see if it's permanent -- anyone else remember "the end" of the Donovan McNabb era last fall? If Lidge did just lose the closer's job for the rest of the year, that's regrettable, for he's definitely one of the good guys in Philadelphia sports, just one of the good guys with a lot of issues.
The Lidge follies will overshadow a story that Phillies' fans have longed to hear -- the real Raul Ibanez is finally back. Oh, and the Phillies did win, for a change.

Just like any job- you continually fail- you get fired. Somehow Will Bunch still has a job. Illogical Liberal
It was "an opposing hitters vast conspiracy" against Lidge- they were all out to get him. Illogical Liberal
Sometimes people go on a bad string. I'd rather have him go perfect in 2008 and win a World Series and falter much more this year than have him do well but not quite get the job done both years. bmmg39
Charlie should be fired for allowing Lidge to pitch in the first plsce. bhs1944
It's a conspiracy all right.....so they would face the Dodgers in the first round. scootch- Maybe Brad Lidge will blame Bush! AuH20

That should be it for the year. It's one thing to blow a few saves when you're 6 games up, but not in the playoffs when everybody starts 0-0. Now he needs time to see who gets the job - Myers or Madsen. SteveMG
Ah, if only Americans who lost their jobs due to corporate corruption and globalization got ten percent of the money Lidge is paid....give me a break comparing his plight to that of the general populace. GPG13- Cooked, fine', done, outta there, are all terms that apply to Lidge. It's a shame but it had to be done. next thing we will hear is Lidge put on the DL with a bad thumb & knee. PHAZED
- Not to worry. The season starts on Sunday! Mr. Smith
Mr. Lidge, meet Mr. Fork. Talking point sleuth- Brad Lidge will be back in there to close the next time Charlie needs a closer - hopefully with Lee on the mound tonight that won't be until tomorrow at the earliest. Lidge has plenty more time to get his act together - expect Dubbee to be working on his stretch move in the 'pen today. Hopefully Lidge is not cooked because if he is we'll be watching the Eagles on Sunday in mid-October (and the Eagles s@ck) bird11
