Shocking video of nuclear plant explosion

POSTED: Sunday, March 13, 2011, 11:03 PM

A second nuclear reactor at Japan's embattled Fukushima nuclear facility exploded about an hour ago, in a mushroom cloud of grey smoke. It is the second of as many as five troubled Japanese reactors to experience a hydrogran explosion since Friday's catastrophic earthquke -- in both cases Japanese officials claim that that the main reactor containment held, preventing a massive release of radiation,

That said, the New York Times is reporting U.S. military helicopters already detecting radiation as far as 60 miles from the stricken reactors. The video below shows the new explosion as it happened on live Japanese television.

They sure didn't get in the way of Dubya's.

Bill - George W. Bush played his last round of golf as POTUS in 2003 - the reason he said in a 2008 interview was "“I don’t want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing golf,” he said. “I feel I owe it to the families to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal.”

Sorry to disrupt your hatred with facts.

Once in awhile is fine, but in the middle of an international disater, not so much.

I thought Obama was supposed to be better than Bush, not continually compared to him. I thought Obama was going to make us loved by the international community with his kowtowing and apologies.

He doesn't care about domestic disasters (Gulf spill) or international ones (Japan). The egomaniac only cares about himself.

Say what you want about Bush and working in Texas, but at least he didn't fly Air Force One around the world like a kid with a new toy.

Liberal name calling = classic defense mechanism.

I am curious what kind of plants these are. I know that new plants were being built in a lot of other countries that are supposed to be a lot safer. Either way, it makes you think that all the preparations that we make can come to naught if something happens in nature.

The problem isn't reactors, it's building them on a fault line, of which Japan is situated dead center.

Yeah, otherwise they are perfectly safe. Except for TMI. Except for Chernobyl. On second thought...

Over 60 years of consistant and reliable energy production and you can point to 2 episodes - only one of which has had a long term effect.... I'd call that a pretty successful run.

Chernobyl had no containment structure at all. TMI was a close call, but it was no where close to being a disaster.

The Kemeny Commission Report concluded that "there will either be no case of cancer or the number of cases will be so small that it will never be possible to detect them. The same conclusion applies to the other possible health effects." Several epidemiological studies in the years since the accident have supported the conclusion that radiation releases from the accident had no perceptible effect on cancer incidence in residents near the plant.

But Bill, don't let your China Syndrome get in the way of making a clear opinion, right?

It's been - what - 3 days since the quake and the "fallout" and not one of you trial lawyers have found a way to file suit against SOME Japanese entity for damages? I mean, it's obvious even Will Bunch is suffering severe emotional distress.... you guys are really slipping.

Gee I'm surprised TPS hasn't been on here yet thanking conservatives for blocking socialist nuclear power plants in the U.S. for the last 30 years and saving the American people from disasters like this.
