Shock! The monkee*

POSTED: Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 8:20 PM
Remember a few years ago when all blog posts were about "cartoon violence"? Well, the phrase is back, with a twist. Is the New York Post really racist or just remarkably stupid. I'm leaning toward the latter, but this doesn't excuse this lame cartoon or Sean Delonas, a talentless hack who should have been fired long before this happened.

* Yes, it was a chimpanzee, not a monkee, but there's no outdated song from the '80s named "Shock the Chimpanzee." Am I simianally incorrect here?

It was at least stupid--if not intentionally provocative--to associate the Chimp with stimulus package and indirectly Obama, but people outside of the NYC metro probably missed the extreme spotlight on the rampaging chimp in Connecticut story. It reached missing white woman in the Carribean-levels of intensity.

BTW...Palin's back taxes? The review came at HER request.... Alaska Daily News http://www.adn.com/palin/story/693695.html "At the Governor's request, we reviewed the situation to determine whether we were in full compliance with the pertinent Internal Revenue Service regulations," Kreitzer wrote. "As a result of this review, we determined that per diem needs to be treated as income, requiring a revision of W-2 forms for any affected employees."

Again, TPS's comments are shown to be spin, not factual.

Rudy- You really don't see the difference between comparing Bush and Obama to a monkey??? Then again, you seem to believe Palin requesting the inquiry shows her innocence, because you know, powerful people never "investigate" themselves to make them look less guilty. I wish my world was as simple as yours.

I can understand why people associated the chimp with Obama under the circumstances, but didn't think it was the intent since it's referring to the drafter, not the signer. But I don't understand why it's automatically racist if it was. GWB was referred to as a chimp for 8 years. I understand it is different because previous uses of the term as a racial epithet (which is why the cartoonist was, at best, an idiot). But it seems a little oversensitive when we have to draw a map to get to the purported racism, or when common phrases like "Atta boy" are taken out of context to make charges of racism. It's the kind of thing that emboldens those who whine that everyone is too "PC."

I honestly think that Will thinks that Monkey is spelled "Monkee". That in it self says a lot.

This is insane. C'mon, Obama didn't even draft the stimulus bill, Congress did. The cartoon was simply ashing up two news stories (quite poorly, I might add). People need to lighten up.

Look -- I'm conservative and support the 1st amendment. This, however is just offensive any way you look at it. To me, the editor needs to be fired for stupidity.
