UPDATED: Miracle in the Hudson: Reports say all survived

POSTED: Thursday, January 15, 2009, 4:03 PM

A U.S. Airways Airbus jet from LaGuardia to Charlotte with about 135 people has crashed in the Hudson River in New York -- if you're not near TV an amazing rescue in the ice-cold waters is taking place.

Stay tuned, and say a prayer. Clearly there are survivors, but hypothermia is a real possibility.

UPDATE: There are many survivors -- thank God. What a story. Passenger now on CNN -- loud bang, something hit the plane, smoke filled the cabin and the pilot told passengers to prepare for impact. Most passengers rescued quickly by boat. The pilot is clearly a hero.

UPDATE II: Great news -- by all accounts all 148 passengers and crew survived the crash. Aviation officials are reporting the crash may have been caused by a double bird strike; no signs of terrorism. One passenger gave a lengthy interview to CNN and said the left engine was flaming. The pilot only said "prepare for impact" before landing in the icy river, near 42nd Street.

In all seriousness.. if all those people survived in the boats after the Titanic, these people will be ok. They were rescued quick.

Report now is that plane crash was a result of birds sucked into engine. Crash reminds me of Jan. 13, 1982 Air Florida crash into the Potomac. Imagine in the age of XM and Sirrius Howard Stern's job will be safe when he checks on fare from LaGuardia to Hudson River.

Luckily all of the survivors will get their luggage back... US Airways had already lost it at the gate.

How about the ScareBus 320? That's what the Boeing people in Ridley Park call it (natch). And no one has suggested yet that the bird strike may have been planned by Osama Bin Robin (Bodda Bom!)

12amrider you are correct. If you go out to the CNN Website you will see video of Canadian geese training at known Al Qaeda terrorist training facilities in Iran and Pakistan. At least I think they were Canadian. The most shocking video I have ever seen.
