From May 8, 2008, in its entirety, with original art, linked here:

Please come back

Prediction: Jim Thome will be bashing home runs for the White Sox long after Ryan Howard's long, long "rehab" stint in single-A Lakewood. Maybe Howard can pull a reverse Rick Ankiel and learn to be a pitcher...because the guy has forgotten how to hit a baseball.

So...there you have it. Two other things. One -- my apologies for trying to quote it from memory (if you've ever trying to find an old post on Attytood, it takes forever!) in the comments the other night, as has been pointed out I forgot the quotation mark by not re-checking. My bad...I won't try to quote from an old post again without re-linking. The other thing is that, given what a horrendous violation of...something or other....that this post was, you'd expect to find more outrage in the comments. Oh well.

"Two other things. One -- my apologies for trying to quote it from memory" Thanks for taking the out that I gave you on another thread. I'll take you at your wor...ummm, implication...that this was a simple mistake of memory. "if you've ever trying to find an old post on Attytood, it takes forever!" Not really...you said on Thursday that the post was in "early May", so I simply clicked on a page that I thought would be around that time. I was off by a couple of pages...then I found it. Didn't take very long at all. (Now I'm left wondering how you knew on Thursday that it was in early May that you made the post...if you hadn't already found it. I guess your memory was uc better about this particular fact. Hmmmm.) "as has been pointed out I forgot the quotation mark by not re-checking." Actually, it wasn't just the quotation marks. On Thursday you quoted yourself as saying, "long after Howard's inevitable rehab assignment in Lakewood" which gives a markedly different connotation than what you had actually posted (which you have reposted above). "given what a horrendous violation of...something or other....that this post was, you'd expect to find more outrage in the comments." It was a violation of your own integrity, as well as the credibility with which we should be giving you as our intrepid blogger. I can only believe that there wasn't more outrage because no one ever looked up the original post, until I did so...therefore no one knew that you had appeared to slant the story. Other possible reasons are that there are many here who were not surprised at all...or that it was ridiculous of me to assume that you'd never want lose credibility by trying to alter perceptions of something so silly. Bottom line...1) thanks for the apologies, 2) I accept that it was an honest mistake, 3) your post really does not seem to be sarcasm...it looks like you really expected the Phils to send Howard to the minors as many claim.

I'm sorry, Legatus, I didn't mean to go on forever about this, but more specifically what happened was I'd looked up the post 2-3 weeks ago because of the constant carping from BA and others, but didn't say anything at the time. When it was raised yet again the other night, I tried to quote from memory (it took me like 5-10 minutes to find the first time...you must be faster than) and, given the intense interest, should have known that was a mistake. The only point I was trying to make was that the post was frustration/sarcasm over the length of Howard's slump -- many of the commenters agreed although several were correct to predict that a) Howard would improve dramatically and b) Burrell would slump. Did I truly expect Howard to go to rehab? I thought it was possible -- his slow start in 2007 led to a stint on the DL, as you may recall.

Definitely Not TPS
Good points, legatus. I mean, it's not like Will could have figured that it was early May when he originally referred to the earlier post BECAUSE THAT'S WHEN HOWARD WAS IN THE HORRENDOUS SLUMP, or anything like that. Obviously, he must have searched through 55 pages of posts to find it like you did. Not only that, but how ridiculous is it that Will pretends he was being sarcastic in his original post? I mean, if you believed Will about being sarcastic about sending Howard down, then you'd have to think that he was also sarcastic about Howard turning into a pitcher. Obviously, Will actually did think that in an unprecedented move, the Phils would send a hitting star to the lowest level of the minor leagues because he was in a slump -- just like Will was serious about Howard becoming a pitcher. But it really is big of you to accept Will's "honest mistake." You're obviously a class act. Not like that Talking point sleuth. I knew you were a class act right from the start when you explained how titillated you were by Ricky French's homoerotic/scatologi*al fantasies. Have you checked out Ricky's latest posts? Hilarious pleasure/death fantasies. Really hilarious. Very dignified and graceful. Qualities that that dope, Talking point sleuth will never possess

"many of the commenters agreed although several were correct to predict that a) Howard would improve dramatically and b) Burrell would slump...--- Just who were those brilliant commenters with such deep insight into baseball? Must be real geniuses.

Once again, thanks for the explanation Will. Thanks also about explaining looking up the post 2-3 weeks ago, etc. I didn't mean to go on about this forever either. My apologies also if I was in any way insulting or offensive.

Prediction: D-Mac will have a better year, next year with a different team, than Kolb will have with the Eagles under Andy Reid. Book it. (Hey, I was right about Burrell and Howard, wasn't I?)

No problem, L., I'm just perplexed by the interest in this. If people want to bring me down, and apparently one or two people do, there's probably better ammo than a post about Ryan Howard's batting slump.

ACTUAL PHOTO MONTAGE DESCRIPTION IN INKY TODAY: "In Obama aura, some can see defining eras . As the country prepares for the presidency of Barack Obama, viscerally, at least, echoes of JFK are unavoidable. The youth, the passing of the generational torch, the cool style, the culturally liberating presence of a writer-intellectual, the beguiling kids, the instantly iconic wife, the adoration of the world. actual poll in inky today: "Which former president is Obama the most reminiscent of? Choices include JFK, FDR. Lincoln & RFK......RFK?.......""That' an actual poll at the Philadelphia Inquirer, attached to some story about how wonderful Obama is. (Just in case we'd all forgotten.) Please click on that image and vote for Bobby Kennedy, just to be silly geese. It's an embarrassing mistake, but in the Inquirer's defense, RFK died before most of the paper's remaining staff members' parents were born. " (jimtreacher.com/archives/001916.html)

I saw that, you may be stunned Swifty, but I sort of agree with you -- the RFK thing was bizarre, it was still on the headline but not one of the actual choices. Meanwhile, they could have put a failed president as one of the choices, like Jimmy Carter. The presidents he reminds of right now are Clinton (his economic team) and Bush 41 (foreign policy.)
