Help me figure it out:
ESCONDIDO, CA—Spurred by an administration he believes to be guilty of numerous transgressions, self-described American patriot Kyle Mortensen, 47, is a vehement defender of ideas he seems to think are enshrined in the U.S. Constitution and principles that brave men have fought and died for solely in his head.
"Our very way of life is under siege," said Mortensen, whose understanding of the Constitution derives not from a close reading of the document but from talk-show pundits, books by television personalities, and the limitless expanse of his own colorful imagination. "It's time for true Americans to stand up and protect the values that make us who we are."
Is it possible for the answer to be "both"? (h/t to occasional Attytood Reader JB)
Say - it looks like Kyle is one of our regular Attytood contributors: --snip-- "The freedoms our Founding Fathers spilled their blood for are vanishing before our eyes," Mortensen said. "In under a year, a fascist, socialist regime has turned a proud democracy into a totalitarian state that will soon control every facet of American life." --snip-- But which one? Is it batboy, brync, RG, or sloboat? Hard to tell Talking point sleuth
From the article: "Dad's great, but listening to all that talk radio has put some weird ideas into his head," said daughter Samantha... And we ALL know what talk radio he listens to, don't we? Some Boca Dude
Let me know where in the Constitution one can find the ability to force people to by insurance. Weren't you guys crying about executive power a few short months ago? RG
Even though it's The Onion, it really is impossible to tell whether he's or real. I saw people in line at a Michigan mall who were virtually incoherent about why they were Sarah Palin fans. I actually felt embarrassed for them. One woman is wearing a t-shirt complaining about the bank bailout but won't believe that Palin supported it. Some guy next to her tries to bail her out by claiming that some guy in charge changed it all around after Congress passed it. Did you know that according to the Constitution, government is supposed to be small? SteveMG
kyle's just like the majority of our elected officials. either hasnt read it, or doesn't care what it has to say. the framework of our country is a few short pages, the current hc bill? 2000 plus pages. somethings gone terribly wrong. RG
Let me know where in the Constitution one can the ability to force people to get social security numbers. I thought you guys LOVED executive power! SteveMG- RG, it's right there in the preamble, between the "One Nation Under God" clause and the Gay Marriage ban.
Reprised from the last post: Who said it: "I don't care about the Consttution"? SteveMG
Here's another shocker. We managed to win WWI AND WWII saying the Pledge of Allegience before it included the words "under God". Even the Baptist preacher who wrote it about a hundred years ago didn't think it needed those two little words. SteveMG
"Let me know where in the Constitution one can the ability to force people to get social security numbers." I'm guessing that came about from another prez interested in expanded power, FDR. How's that SS fund doin' nowadays? How much does it take up of the budget? RG
It's doing terrible. Especially after the previous prez got what he wanted, a massive unfunded expansion of liabilities. The Medicare prescription plan ring a bell? SteveMG- "I'm guessing that came about from another prez interested in expanded power..." . . . . . Yeah, but that wasn't good enough for the diaper wearers; Sensenbrenner's REAL ID mandate on the states is still scheduled for 2011.
"The Medicare prescription plan ring a bell?" So this makes it right? Whats your point? Expanding gov reach and entitlements is a bad idea, yet here we are again with health care reform. Reid's plan basically expands Medicaid to more people. Problem is the cost controlling mechanism is slashing reimbursement rates, so we'll see one of the following: less doctors, less doctors accepting medicaid patients, cost shifting to non medicaid patients, or the reimbursement rates are raised. The first two lead to supply shortages, the second two lead to cost skyrocketing, as more demand is added. RG- "Did you know that according to the Constitution, government is supposed to be small?" . . . . . 10 miles square, to be exact. Article 1, Section 8, subsection 17.
RG, the second half of your post is out of the blus. Less doctors? Where are they going to go? Back to their home countries, I guess (which should delight the right wingers). Also you say that reibursement are slashed and raised in the SAME SENTENCE! Helloooo, you want to try that again? The status quo is unsustainabe, RG. My insurance premiums have doubled in the last five years. Many people I know have to go on cheaper plans with worse coverage. The costs of treating all the uninsured are already being shifted. One of my jobs is the office manager of my wife's practice. One of the great fallacies of the medical biz is that it operates as a free market. Supply and demand break down when the commodity is healthcare. There is a disconnect between the price of healthcare, the value of healthcare and the outcome of the services rendered. My wife will order diagnostic tests simply because the insurance companies will allow them. If she stops sending patients to the open MRI, the open MRI people hint that they'll have to use their influence to get some other doctor privileges at the wound care center, and stuff like that. The status quo is more messed up than you might realize. BTW if I get a chance later on I'll try to give some insight on how "Dr." Hasan got where he did, from what I've seen of doctor politics.
