Party like it's 2009

Put on your party hats, everyone!

If your office pools on Oscar winners and NCAA basketball games don't offer enough action, consider starting a pool on the Dow Jones industrial average crossing 10,000.

But hurry.

Despite lackluster trading at the end of last week, many analysts think the Dow is destined for 10,000 soon, maybe this week.

There's more!

"I've got a bottle of champagne here in the office that I've squirreled away," said David Johnson, a Dallas stockbroker and media market analyst who also expects 10,000 sooner rather than later.

And why not? Analysts note that the U.S. economy continues to show signs of fundamental strength. That strength has boosted the stock market for months, even amid global financial problems.

Oops, I just realized this story was from the Dallas Morning News on March 15, 1999. Nevermind. Hey, the Yankees seem headed back for the World Series, and I just heard on the news that Clinton was talking diplomacy in Russia, so can you blame me for being confused? The only thing that's clear is that if you invested just $1 dollar in blue-chip stocks a decade ago, you'd still have that dollar. Whoot!
