Well, OK, he had some unlikely help from Greenpeace:

Earlier today, activists from Greenpeace descended upon Mt. Rushmore and posted a banner reading "America honors leaders not politicians: Stop Global Warming."  The massive banner measured 2,300 square feet and featured a picture of President Obama.  The stint was to bring attention to global warming -- Greenpeace feels that Obama has not done enough to fight climate change.

A dozen Greenpeace activists were arrested -- they scaled the mountain using rock anchors put in place by the National Park Service.  Anyone who climbs Mt. Rushmore can be subject to a trespassing charge, and those arrested are scheduled to make a federal court appearance later today.

I don't have a problem with civil disobedience, as long as participants accept the consequences -- getting arrested -- and don't damage property. I think you'll be seeing a lot more of this kind of thing in the months ahead -- from people on the left. There may be a realization that protest was a tad futile in the Bush era, with a president so diametrically opposed to progressive viewpoints, but that it may serve a purpose in keeping pressure on a more sympathetic Obama, who talked a good game (from a liberal standpoint) on issues like climate change and Gitmo but finds it too easy to compromise as he gets trapped inside the Beltway bubble.

That's why I think there's more than just the conventional wisdom to explain Obama's recent drop in popularity. Some of that is the 24/7 barrage from talk radio and Fox, and some it is legitimate frustration and anger over the economy that goes beyond simple ideology. But some of the drop, I would guess, is also from disappointed liberals who didn't think they'd be out there protesting Barack Obama, at least not so soon.

It was Barack Obama -- and not his enemies -- who forced a stimulus bill to pass that spends twice as much money in counties that voted his way than those that voted for McCain. "Counties that supported Obama last year have reaped twice as much money per person from the administration's $787 billion economic stimulus package as those that voted for his Republican rival, Sen. John McCain, a USA TODAY analysis of government disclosure and accounting records shows." (http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2009-07-08-redblue_N.htm)

Those "legions of Republicans" also included the "Reagan Democrats", giving him a 49-to-2 state landslide over Mondale, including Democrat turf like NY, NJ, MA, CA, and on and on. "ome of that is the 24/7 barrage from talk radio and Fox, and some it is legitimate frustration and anger over the economy that goes beyond simple ideology." Hahahaha yea, that's why his approval ratings are low. Talk radio and one T.V channel. Yea, that's why show's on Fox News have higher ratings than anything on CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS. You so smart will. Next time, back your information up with facts!

"I don't have a problem with civil disobedience, as long as participants accept the consequences -- getting arrested -- and don't damage property". Sapience abates again. Civil disobedience results from selfish toxic apolitical people. These individual achieved the apolitical goal, but infected other apolitical neocons to perform other such damages. For example, the killing of the abortion clinic doctor (forgot name). Increases in unruly and legal actions align during rough economic times and shortsightedness. Congress and the Whitehouse have failed America for too long. We can trace back to LBJ of spending a $1.10 for every dollar collected. The bubble burst, jobs have become meaningless, welfare swells, and populist enemies are everywhere. The lambs get heated and their views stiffened. For these individuals, peace cannot nor will not ever arrive, as measures are not enough.

So I suppose the reverse is true then, Will? The 24/7 barrage from CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC and CBS is keeping Mr. Obama's approval ratings up? What do you "liberals" want exactly? Other than to create outrageous restrictions on energy generation? And liberals would have you believe they are live and let live...as long as it's there way.
