No blood in ants

POSTED: Tuesday, March 16, 2010, 8:53 AM

I recommended doing things like this back in 2005. Did anybody listen? Well, Comcast, obviously, but did anybody around here? (By the way, if you're not a fan of the The700Level,com by now, you should be.)

Yes, this is part of a trend:

In a possible sign of shifting industry dynamics, the New York Times launched regional supplements to its San Francisco and Chicago editions, drawing on the work of well-financed donor-sponsored startups.  Similarly, ESPN launched regional sites in Chicago, Boston, Dallas and Los Angeles, challenging papers there for dominance in sports reporting. The Wall Street Journal is rolling out regional supplements as well and increasing its local coverage of New York City.

But if this is, as it appears, a case of well-off national media lions (and some new media challengers) feasting on sickly antelopes, watch for many metros to fight back in 2010Already, for example, the Seattle Times has responded to the rich collection of neighborhood Web sites in that city by partnering with and aggregating 19 of them.

No reason why that couldn't happen here. Is there?

Yes, this is an open thread, so please ignore what I just wrote and scream "socialism!" and "it was all Bush's fault!" at each other for the rest of the day.

"This is a BLOG, not a news page. If you want news go to philly.com main page. If you want opinion, you are in the right place." I wonder what is will's opinion of Massa, Patterson and Rangel.

Bush is gone but his failed legacy continues. The time will come (and it's getting closer by the day)when the problems we have will be totally Obama's fault, but the mess Bush left him has to at least be considered part of the problem. I frankly doubt Obama will succeed considering how hard the Republicans are making it for him. I hope I'm wrong.

"Will the earth open up and swallow great swathes of land when 30 million+ people will now be able to get reasonable health insurance?" Nope, it'll just speed up the path to the country's bankruptcy.

Obviously, you are fiscally insane batty. You just can't see the "right" side of history, in which its smart to run up record deficits and pass costly entitlement programs.

"Nope, it'll just speed up the path to the country's bankruptcy." . . . . . You'd think tea baggers would be overjoyed at the prospect. No more government in DC, and all that federal land to sell off to the highest bidder! I've got my eye on the Albert Gallatin house just up the road.

"You'd think tea baggers would be overjoyed at the prospect." Overjoyed is a strong word, but it'll finally allow the country to get its financial house in order.

---}}} .... but it'll finally allow the country to get its financial house in order. {{{--- Thanks goodness. Those last 200 plus odd years have just been a total mess. Well, except if you compare us to any other location on the entire planet in the real world. But, you know, those last 230 plus years have absolutely stunk compared to fantasy-land Shangri-La, where there are no taxes and people magically get educated and roads get built and laws are enforced without government, and no companies, anywhere, sell toxic products for a profit (because the market self-regulates). LOL!

"Those last 200 plus odd years have just been a total mess." Strawman. Plus, its extremely odd that you go back further past the New Deal, where FDR magically killed off poverty according to you. But keep ignoring that $56 tril in debt and various states about to go belly up. Golden age, here we come!
