Mississippi (Tea Party) burned

Mississippi votes!...and other stuff

This wasn't exactly how they drew it up a half-century ago, but 50 years after "Freedom Summer," (largely) unfettered black voters decided an election in Mississippi last night -- a GOP primary election between a very conservative incumbent and an ultra-conservative neo-Confederate tea party challenger. As late baseball announcer Mel Allen often said, "How about that?" Now that conservative-but-not-crazy Sen. Thad Cochran is the voice of southern blacks inside the GOP caucus, what will he do for them?

Don't hold your breath to find out!

I normally wouldn't mention Mississippi here for THE THIRD TIME in a month (what is this...the Philadelphia (Miss.) Daily News?), but I do so in part because, remember that "Freedom Summer" documentary that I mentioned? It's available and it's online! Watch it (something I've been too busy to do...arghhh!) at the bottom of the post.

Also, there's been some other odds and ends worth mentioning -- so here's a rare Attytood roundup:

1. Tying with Mississippi at two blog posts already this month, it's worth at least mentioning that there's a compromise in that Neshaminy censorship mess, and it seems like a fair one. The students would not have gotten this if they had not fought for their rights...God bless them.

2. I've told you many times about my amazing Daily News colleagues Wendy Ruderman and Barbara Laker, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporters, but how amazing is this? -- they're going to be TV characters!!! And Sarah Jessica Parker is going to be....one of them! (I honestly don't know which one.) It's all based on their book, "Busted" -- buy it before it sell out!

3. In laboring to bring you all the important developments in Mississippi and Neshaminy, I've had a hard time keeping up with other stories in the news. I thought I head someone say the other day that something is up with the IRS...does anyone out there know about this?

UPDATE: Meant to add this...blogs are officially dead. Why are you here?
