Maybe if Dick Cheney had taken the threat of terrorism more seriously he would have caught this guy

POSTED: Monday, February 15, 2010, 10:07 PM

In a perfect world, this would shut Dick Cheney up for a few days...but we don't live in a perfect world, unfortunately:

WASHINGTON — The Taliban’s top military commander was captured several days ago in Karachi, Pakistan, in a secret joint operation by Pakistani and American intelligence forces, according to American government officials.

The commander, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, is an Afghan described by American officials as the most significant Taliban figure to be detained since the American-led war in Afghanistan started more than eight years ago. He ranks second in influence only to Mullah Muhammad Omar, the Taliban’s founder and a close associate of Osama bin Laden before the Sept. 11 attacks.

Maybe Cheney should have spent a little less time on his illegal waterboarding fantasies and a little more time shoring up his relations with Pakistan? Just sayin...

Sophismon, how much was funneled into the terrorists network? How much aid is Obama giving Pakistan? How much of that is funneled into terrorist networks? Nice post.

---}} If bush did it and it was wrong it's still wrong when Obama does it. {{{--- ---}}} How ironic is that? Can you point to one Republican who criticized Bush for Mirandizing terrorism suspects? Rudy "We had no domestic attacks under Bush" Giuliani? --snip-- "Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani declared that the verdict 'demonstrates that New Yorkers won't meet violence with violence, but with a far greater weapon -- the law.'" And: "It should show that our legal system is the most mature legal system in the history of the world, that it works well, that that is the place to seek vindication if you feel your rights have been violated," Giuliani said....I have tremendous respect for our legal system. Maybe there is something good that comes out of this in showing these people that -- at least showing the ones that have any kind of an open mind that we are a free society, a lawful society ... that we have respect for people's rights.... --snip--

One can only hope he did not scrape his knees crawling out of his cave. The marines in the brig, him in the hospital and suing for brutality. As for Cheney, how many were actually were caught/killed by people on the ground and plots foiled. Congrats to the soldiers; hope you don't get arrested by Holder. Will Joe B. or Obama take direct credit for this

He doesnt need Congress to close it. he didnt run into opposiiton, he ran into reality. {{{--- There's no question that he failed in that promise. No one is arguing that. Yes, one aspect is that he ran into "reality." Reality being the complete mess that the Bush administration left behind with the records on the detainees. His policy that habeas corpus review would be required is a time consuming process. And the opposition has been in the push back he's gotten to moving the detainees to the states. The failure to live up to his promise to close Gitmo has nothing to do with maintaining Bush administration policies.

"do you mean like how Richard Reid was Mirandized? Do you mean like how the underwear bomber was Mirandized" Well, well. What do you know. Tps tried to sneak in a "Mommy, mommy, they did it fiiiiiiiirst" post. Oops, no I'm wrong...when Tps says something like this, he is simply pointing out hypocrisy, when anyone else does the ~exact same thing~ Tps goes into his "mommy mommy" OCD mode. Ok, time for your ridiculous spin now...let's see if you can top your "Caps Lock" spin from last week...that was one of the funniest breakdances I've ever seen online, you were spinning on your head. Really, it was funny as he!l. Anyway, have at it...have fun.

LOL! First, legatus, you admitted my point about Idiot's use of the caps lock -- that he "wasn't thinking." That was my point all along, and is my point about his posts in general. Thinking that pressing the shift key would capitalize OK, WHEN HE ALREADY HAD THE CAPS LOCK KEY DOWN, is simply evidence of what I've said about him all along. As for your silly point here. Pointing out that Reid was Mirandized under Bush is obviously not a "Mommy, mommy, they did it firrrrrsst" post - because I have NO PROBLEM with the suspects being Mirandized. A "Mommy, mommy" post is when someone points out that someone else did something wrong as an excuse for their own behavior. I have no need to excuse the behavior of Mirandizing the underwear bomber. Therefore, pointing out the hypocrisy of those who criticize Obama's administration for Mirandizing a suspect but who applauded Bush's administration for Mirandizing a terrorist suspect is, decidedly, NOT a "Mommy, mommy" post. But you knew that already, and laughably, tried to excuse your previous "Mommy, mommy" post with YET ANOTHER "Mommy, mommy" post. LOL! What next, another "Mommy, mommy" post to hide your "Mommy, mommy" post in defense of your first "Mommy, mommy" post?

Dick Cheney's problem is this. He and Bush ignored terrorism until 9/11. They were told in the beginning that this would be their biggest international issue. They ignored that warning. In fact Dick who took on the role of leading the terrorism taskforce didnt hold a meeting until 9/11. That is why he is so bat-sh*t crazy about this. He is afraid someone will eventually start pointing fingers at them (which should be done) and they also know that he and Bush bear the responsibility of the lost of thousands of American lives. There will be a special place in Hell for him just for that.

"Maybe Cheney should have spent a little less time on his illegal waterboarding fantasies and a little more time shoring up his relations with Pakistan? Just sayin..." Uh, Pakistan does more than waterboard to garner their intelligence. Figured this would be more of an issue for a bleeding heart like you, Will. Just sayin...

Kudos to the US (and Pakastani)military and intelligence services for capturing Baradar. Glad to see some progress being made, although this guy is easily replaceable. No point really in giving Obama credit for this, he's just the president. Good news is good news though. The real credit goes to those in the trenches.
