Viva "Los Suns"!

POSTED: Tuesday, May 4, 2010, 7:44 PM

If Arizona's outrageous racial-profiling immigration law gets beaten back -- which it eventually will -- you can give a lot of credit to pro athletes who are taking a strong stand on the measure. A lot of the focus has been on baseball -- with the most Latino players, and with the All-Star Game slated for Phoenix in 2011 -- but it's remarkable to see the way that basketball's Phoenix Suns are, um, stepping up to the plate:

The Phoenix Suns on Tuesday announced that they will be wearing an alternative jersey identifying them as "Los Suns" during Wednesday's playoff game to voice the team's disapproval for Arizona's tough new immigration law.

Robert Sarver, the team's managing partner, said in a statement that the alternative uniforms will be worn during Wednesday's home playoff game against the San Antonio Spurs in order to voice opposition to the law that Sarver said is not the "right way" to handle immigration reform.

Listen to someone who knows what it's like to cross the border and realize your dreams here..Steve Nash:

"I think it is unfortunately to the detriment to our society and our civil liberties and I think it is very important for us to stand up for things we believe in," the all-star point guard said. "I think the law obviously can target opportunities for racial profiling. Things we don't want to see and don't need to see in 2010."

So what is "outrageous" about Arizona's controversial state law requiring law-enforcement officers to demand presentation of proof of identity which supports the accosted person's lawful presence in these United States? ### Mr. Bunch is a "Liberal" (or are they back to calling themselves "progressives" this week?) and therefore mentally crippled, so we can expect nothing from him in any address of this subject. But let's ask the readers to speculate on what crimes against civil rights have been committed by a policeman asking you to see proof of your identification under any circumstances - your skin color, your mode of dress, your gait, whatever - at any time he is discharging his duty "to serve and protect"? ### Cops routinely demand "your papers" every time they encounter you. You have the right to demand THEIR papers - badge number, identification, the whole megillah - too. ### Along with that proof of identification you have proof of your status as a legal resident of these United States, right? Hell, you've got better proof in your driver's license (which in many states requires that you present a certified copy of your birth certificate) than Barry Soetoro has thus far presented to prove that he is legally qualified to squat on that private toilet seat just off the Oval Office. ### So - apart from mental disease - what's Mr. Bunch's problem here, and why is this Arizona law to be considered improper in any way? -30-

"I was at game and I seriously doubt that tonight's idiot would have run on the field without kast night's idiot getting so much fame for being a moron" Good possibility. But dioesn't that show that the tazing and subsequent media firestorm acted more as an encouragement than a deterrant? And why not taze the guy last night?

I just wonder if this "Los Suns" thing is really a reaction to the law. It is Cinco de Mayo. Were the Suns planning this a along anyway, and are now using a retroactive justification for it? Not that it really matters, but it just seems a little conveeeeenient.

"And why not taze the guy last night?".. because as soon as the guards got near him he stopped and gave himself up. (Actually by the time the fat slob made it to centerfield he was too exhausted to do anything else)
