So 2013 is officially the Year of Francis. To use a mixed metaphor, they are the yin and the yang -- TV's shrewd, conniving Francis Underwood and the Vatican's humble and awestruck -- and yet somehow also ambitious -- Jesuit Pope Francis I.
But the man formerly known as Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina is a man of the middle: Left-leaning on economic issues as he vehemently opposes gay marriage and gay adoption, a Latin American with one foot in Italiy, a Jesuit who named his papcy for the founder of the Franciscan movement.
I'm looking forward to watching Season 1. Meanwhile, I wonder if the new pope is going to listen tonight...to Francis:
