"We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we have ever spent before and it does not work. And I have just one interest, and if I am wrong . . . somebody else can have my job. I want to see this country prosperous. I want to see people get a job. I want to see people get enough to eat. We have never made good on our promises. . . . I say after eight years of this Administration we have just as much unemployment as when we started. . . . And an enormous debt to boot." -- Henry Morgenthau, FDR's Treasury Secretary

Name me one non-capitalistic society that has provided a better standard of living for their people as a whole? While the bottom few percent may live in bad conditions in this country everyone has an oppurtunity to pursue their own dream. Hating and tearing down the people who made it to the top of the food chain through hard work is just going to hurt everyone else below them on the food chain. Spread the wealth does not work and it will be proven over the next few years. You have already seen what the market thinks of that type of policy.

Gee, you think Bob Herbert believes in social conflict theory? Perhaps that's why he is so easily dupped into believing in socialism and it's class warefare mentaility. Somoene should let him know that almost all of Marx's theories have been discredited.

This op-ed piece highlights why conservatives think there is a media bias. "They were never reasonably protected against the savage dislocations caused by revolutions in technology and global trade." -- WHY do liberals feel that someone owes them ANYTHING?? You do NOT have the right to a job! You EARN one. The company has NO responsibility to insure YOU against advances in technology that might obsolete your job. RE: Healthcare -- conservatives don't want their DR's office looking like DMV!! What makes anyone think that a government run healthcare system is going to provide a decent level of service?? I would have no problem with a system that allowed me to go to the providers of my choice (with tort reform so my costs could be lower), and would also provide DMV-like service as a low-cost alternative. Just don't complain about the disparity of care between the "have's" and the "have not's".

Newtown joe, its pretty easy to say it won't work when your party stacked the deck. But being a wealthy guy from Newtown it really doesn't mater to you. You just miss your tax cuts. FYI It did work under Clinton and it has proven to work. The key word in the neo-con trickle down economics is Trick. So unless your a top 1% of the country, it wont work for you either, i.e you have been tricked. What if everything in the article, linked above, is true? Would you still be a republican? 80% of US debt has been accumilated by Bush, Bush and Regan. The market thought it was a good idea under Clinton.
