Building a house of worship = Burrning another religion's holy book. Huh?
Media conservatives, led by Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin, are comparing a Florida church's plans to burn Qurans on the anniversary of the 9-11 attacks to plans to build an Islamic community center in Manhattan.
It's not just "media conservatives" -- John Boehner, your next Speaker of the House, also believes this. I'm sure you guys can explain it to me. Apologies for the slow blogging over the last day -- I was out, um, reporting, spending a lovely evening with Christine O'Donnell down in Dover, Del. More on that later.
C'mon, Will. Please. Muslim-American citizens that promote interfaith dialogue replacing the Ground Zero Burlington Coat Factory with a community center is EXACTLY like burning another religion's holy book as a deliberately provocative act. You're just jealous of a lunatic huckster and a vapid politician because you've always wanted to completely compromise any of your values to make money. Talking point sleuth
thats insane. whats more insane is how bent out of shape people are on both sides of each of these stories. with the community center issue; yeah its obviously asking for trouble putting it close to the WTC, but we are built on religious freedom, and if we suddenly consider all islamic people enemies of the state this country is truely destroyed. with the quran buring; it is just a sign of pure ignorance by that church to do such a thing, but much like anything related to relgion (and god forbid you show a picture of muhammed...) people are far too sensitive. its a ignorant and hateful thing to burn a book that is holy to another person, but at the same time it doesnt hurt any muslim physically or emotionally, i could have burned 30 of them in my backyard today, and if nobody knew about it, it wouldnt have mattered. ==]] yeah its obviously asking for trouble putting it close to the WTC, [[== Indeed. The patrons of the neighboring Ground Zero Pu**ycat Gentleman's Club might have a hard time finding parking. Talking point sleuth

freedom of speech no matter how stupid the people involved are. I think I would compare the Koran burning to burning the US flag. palmyra21
Nice review of Backlash over at Slate http://www.slate.com/id/2266569/ Les Ismore
Good point, Porky - because building a community center and burning Korans are EXACTLY alike. One is addressing the needs of a Muslim American community and the other is a deliberately provocative act that fills no one's needs. But yeah, other than that, they are exactly alike. Too funny. The burning of the flag is a much more apt comparison to the burning of the Korans: deliberately provocative acts that are Constitutionally protected. Talking point sleuth
==]] both are insensitive and provacative. [[== It is positively hilarious watching the anti- "politically correct" crowd running around whining about the need to be more "sensitive." Good lord, is there no limit to the hypocrisy of frightwingers? Talking point sleuth

Oh, sorry baggy. I didn't realize. You're pointing out hypocrisy on the left by whining like a schoolgirl about the insensitivity of Muslim American citizens - who have absolutely nothing to do with Islamic terrorism and want to build a community center where the Ground Zero Burlington Coat Factory now stands. My bad. Talking point sleuth
==]] instead of burning the Koran why dont we burn the Iman Rauf [[== Now there we have an honest "conservative," who doesn't waste his time with a bunch of "Mommy, mommy, they did it firrrrrrrsssstt" whining to defend Islamophones that want to make a public spectacle of deliberately provocative acts, but just comes right out and expresses what he really wants. Thanks larlibby. Talking point sleuth
The subtitle of Attytood should be "Welcome to the Spin Zone" Bud Fox
==]] My feeling is this is the motivation of this misguided fool in FL. [[== Another classic post, baggy. So, this guy is going to do something that American military leaders say will likely result in American military deaths, something that will negatively impact the "GWOT," not because he's an Islamophobe, but because he wants to criticize "the left." Or, at least that's what you "feel." Too funny. Talking point sleuth
