"Chrissy Pronger"? Really, Chicago?

POSTED: Tuesday, June 8, 2010, 7:04 PM

Now we know why the Blackhawks haven't won the Cup since 1961. Here's some instant bad karma:

It's a shame the Trib couldn't have released this before Game 5. It would have been fun to see Michael Jordan waive one of these posters from the luxury suite he was in, and count the number of NBC shots of Vince Vaughn and Jeremy Piven plastering one of these against the glass every time Pronger entered the zone.

No word if the Philadelphia Daily News or Inquirer are currently printing up "Patricia Kane" or "Dorothy Byfuglien" to be handed out before Game 6 at Wachovia Center.

Pronger was asked about the poster during media availability on Tuesday. His response? "I don't read what you guys write. Good or bad."

Unlike low-rent cities like Chicago or New York, we actually don't run pictures of opposing players in skirts or diapers. We believe our teams can speak for themselves, in the ice or on the diamond. I would ask what kind of bozo publishes the Chicago Tribune, anyway...but then I remembered!

Isn't this incredibly sexist, to say the least? I mean, it implies that females are weaker than males.

Manny's point is valid, but still.... Why would you give a professional athlete the caliber of Chris Pronger additional motivation?? Dumb move by the Tribune... Plus, one game does not a series make...

The Chicago Tribune gets an "F" on the basis of originality. New York already did this.

@Mr.Smith - hysterical. Until some sissy complains about it, I nominate it for post of the year!

The game is played on the ice, if you need a picture to get you fired up in game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals you have problems.

It backfired. The Tribune's editor had to apologize after the poster upset a 4 time women's Olympic hockey player. Haha... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/hockey/nhl/06/08/pronger.ap/index.html?eref=sihp

Rick Wise Guy, it's hilarious that you brought that up...I remember see'ing that live and you had to give it to Rome, he called him 'Kris' everett to his face, Everett told him that he didn't appreciate that and that he didn't think he would do it again, and then Rome did.

Remember when Jim Rome called former Rams QB Jim Everett "Chrissy"? At least Rome had the courage to do it in front of Everett while he was a guest on his TV show. The video of the subsequent fight is probably out there somewhere. Go Flyers and Go Pronger!

I almost always played goalie when I was a kid. Every once in a while I would get out there with a regular stick and I would hold anything back. I joked that I was just getting revenge, but everybody knew that when I wound up the safest place was in front of the net! Anyway, didn't somebody do that with the Phillies?

dogman5, that's a good point. I call Crosby "Cindy", the nl NY team are the mutts, and of course there is nothing in Dallas except for cowgirls...I guess what goes around comes around. But I sure wouldn't want to be on the recieving end of Pronger's 'complimentary whacks' for game 6....

What happened to your lame "Jones Generation" post? You finally read it and took it down?

Hey, "Cindy" Crosby is appropriate, but no way "Chrissy" Pronger!! (YOU call him that!)
