That waddling sound you heard here this afternoon was a quick-in-and-out from America's second lamest duck, Vice President Dick Cheney, who snuck in with little fanfare for maybe the most empty photo-op since Ronald Reagan's handlers invented them. Apparently your federal rebate check comes from here in the Philadelphia area, a fact that hasn't sped the arrival of mine yet:

Those economic-stimulus checks are printed at only four plants in the country, and Vice President Cheney toured the one in Northeast Philadelphia today.

In a 10-minute speech to about 100 employees at the Philadelphia Regional Financial Center, Cheney called the checks "a shot of energy at the right time and in the right way."

"A shot of energy?" I'll say! Apparently Cheney and his entourage flew from D.C. to Willow Grove to deliver that 10-minute speech, wasting God knows how much pricey jet fuel in the process. And that wasn't the only "black gold" squandered in Cheney's hollow visit here.

He went on to say that the rebates "will help strengthen the case for permanent tax relief. ... In the months to come, the American people will once again prove why our economy remains the envy of the world."

The Cheney visit tied up midday traffic between the center and the Willow Grove Naval Air Station.

So, hundreds and maybe thousands of Philadelphia-area motorists idled in traffic so Cheney could come here for 10 minutes. With the price of gasoline these days, that probably ate up half of their $600 rebate check right there. Here's a crazy idea -- with America in the middle of its worst energy crisis in more than a generation, why don't Cheney and his boss do this for a photo op? WALK out to the Rose Garden and announce that you are curtailing all unnecessary trips between now and January -- and urge private citizens to do the same.

Because Dick Cheney only really needs to be on one more flight in his life, and that's a one-way ticket to the airport at Jackson Hole, Wyo.

Or Leavenworth, Kansas.

Blogger's note: Picture at top is from some other pointless Cheney trip.

JMC is right. Don't you peasants know that you are supposed to line up with your flag pins prominently embedded in your foreheads, bowing and scraping, content to breathe co-Emperor Cheney's fumes, while chanting, "We are nor worthy, please take our children and send them off to fight for your glory?" The only thing better than Bush being out of here on Jan. 20 2009 is his puppet master being gone too.

As the article says, "the only real definition of an 'impeachable offense' is whatever a majority of the House of Representatives considers it to be at a given moment in history.” That being the case, if you (and GQ magazine ) believe that he has committed a crime, then you also must believe that it is incumbent upon the Democratic controlled House to press charges. Since they haven't done so, you (and GQ magazine ) must be of the opinion that the House is in dereliction of its duties. Are you planning on voting out your representative in November?

Do you not hold the administration accountable for ANYTHING that has happened over the last 7 1/2 years? Rove is still laughing at you dingbats, as are the rest of us. Typical frightwing accountability. The chief of staff of the vice president is locked up for lying to a grand jury, and it's laughs all around from the people who elected this administration. The same "law and order" lunatics that think that while the U.S. has 5% of the world's population and 25% of the world's prisoners, the answer to our crime problem is to squeal on blogs about how "libz" control our judicial and law enforcement systems because they prevent us from throwing an even higher percentage of our population into jails that are already over-crowded. Oh yeah, while refusing to pay any more taxes to relieve the over-crowding, because "throwing money at the problem" doesn't help.

Well, we've finally come full circle. So Plebby, do you agree that cost is not the sole driving factor when deciding whether or not something should proceed? Remember (or just look above), this whole line of debate arose over the fact that RG apparently felt that cost was most important factor when deciding whether Bill Clinton should've been impeached (quote: "Maybe the Dems don't feel like borrowing more money from China to fund it.) It wasn't...just like cost isn't the driving factor in whether a House Speaker should fly commercial.

Well, legatus, I was joking, as I noted shortly afterward. As for almost anything cost/benefits should be weighed. The length and cost of the fight to gather evidence on the admin for impeachment would be massive. If anything, I think the Dems have realized such a drawn out fight would not be beneficial for the nation.

Can we get back to the excellent point that Bunch made? Which is that Cheney completely ignores the growing difficulty the rest of us are having traveling around the block, and wastes God knows how many gallons of aviation fuel on an insulting, stupid trip. "It wasn't...just like cost isn't the driving factor in whether a House Speaker should fly commercial." Holy cow, legatus - do you actually HAVE a point here? Seriously, you brought up Pelosi's plane... why? Because you wanted to equate the Speaker of the House flying to her own district on military aircraft (as Speakers have done for years and years and years) with Cheney doing a meaningless photo op in Philadelphia? Then, you assert that it was the Democratic Party that got Pelosi the plane. Having been *proven* wrong on that, you then change the topic (again) - asserting that the Sergeant at Arms is "more powerful" than the Speaker. Having been proven wrong on that, you then change the topic (again) - to be something to do with the Clinton impeachment(?). Yeah, that's what passes for "analysis" among the 28 percenters... Good stuff, that. Next?

"Holy cow, legatus - do you actually HAVE a point here" Yep...my point is that the cost of impeachment is NOT the main determinant in trying to decide whether Cheney should be impeached, as RG had posited. I made another Dem (you) admit as much without even realizing what you were doing. "Seriously, you brought up Pelosi's plane?" Ummm, check again genius...no I didn't. "Because you wanted to equate the Speaker of the House flying to her own district on military aircraft (as Speakers have done for years and years and years) with Cheney doing a meaningless photo op in Philadelphia?" Nope....wasn't me. Are you ~ever~ right? "Then, you assert that it was the Democratic Party that got Pelosi the plane." Never said that either. "Having been *proven* wrong on that, you then change the topic (again) - asserting that the Sergeant at Arms is "more powerful" than the Speaker." It is you who brought up the Sgt at Arms, in response to my statement that she really did have a choice. "Having been proven wrong on that, you then change the topic (again) - to be something to do with the Clinton impeachment(?)" Actually, I just returned to the original post that started this sub-thread. That post being RG's in which HE brought up the cost of the impeachment as a reasoning as to why the Dems won't impeach Cheney. I know you're slow, but try to keep up will ya....(due to 2000 character restriction, to be continued on next post.)

Pleb: One correction. Speakers have not regularly done it for years and years.. there was some occasional use, but regular use of military aircraft only started after 9/11, when politicians realized they could use "security" to justify anything.

"Yeah, that's what passes for 'anlysis' among the 28 percenters... Good stuff, that. Next?" Let's see if you can follow this Mr. Slowsky. RG says that cost is the reason that the Dems won't impeach Cheney. b.atkinson mockingly says that cost has never stopped the Dems before…using Pelosi as an example. You counter that the Democratic party had nothing to do with getting the plane (as if that is relevant to the conversation at all). At that point I say that she certainly had a choice (which she certainly did...and she made the correct one in flying military). You bring up the Sergeant. I say that she could still do what she wanted. At which point you finally blurt out that there are other factors to consider beyond cost alone...which was exactly my point. I made you make my point for me.
