Brett Myers: Philly's own Sarah Palin

Brett Myers takes the mound at Citizens Bank Park tonight for the most important game of the Phillies 2008 playoff run -- and all of Philadelphia is nervous....justifiably.

Sarah Palin takes the stage in St. Louis tonight for a debate that could be make-or-break for John McCain's presidential chances -- and all of the Republican faithful are nervous...justifiably.

Let's face it. Brett Myers is the Sarah Palin of Major League Baseball. Sarah Palin is the Brett Myers of American politics.

They come from the opposite, deep-Red State corners of America, and both of them make East Coast ears cringe when they talk.

This summer, Brett Myers was toiling in the minor leagues.

This summer, Sarah Palin was toiling in the minor leagues.

Brett Myers was on fire in late August and early September -- and so was Sarah Palin.

But Sarah Palin has had a disastrous late September, and so has Brett Myers.

Brett Myers has had family issues at times, and so has Sarah Palin.

Sarah Palin hates journalists, and so does Brett Myers.

Myers throws his first pitch at 6:37 and Palin should be dodging her first question around 9:05. By 11 o'cock, we'll know a lot more about the future of the Phillies, and of America.

There's only one big difference -- their opponents. I've seen C.C. Sabathia -- I've watched C.C. Sabathia pitch. You, Joe Biden, are no C.C. Sabathia.
