Midway through the Dems' convention, Obama gets a 5-point bump in Gallup's daily tracking poll. Maybe the surge is working after all -- you wouldn't sense that if you watch a lot of cable TV.

"you wouldn't sense that if you watch a lot of cable TV"
I started watching the convention tuned in alternately to CNN and Fox. It was so annoying when they constantly interrupted while the speakers spoke TO TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD BE THINKING about the speeches and speakers I couldn't even hear.
PBS was great! I heard the speeches in their entirety, got a "fair and balanced" analysis by Mark Shields and David Brooks, then an anaysis from a historical perspective by three historians. Very well done.
Well, I guess it wasn't a mistake giving the speech in Mile High Stadium after all. Obama really raised the bar tonight and the GOP knows it. Watch that "bump" grow now!
And, Genius, your opinion of Bush, Cheney, Rove, et al,is what?

Speaking of "bounces", how about that last quarter GDP over 3% growth? I sure hope, for his sake, that Barack wasn't planning to moan and groan about our "recession"
of course there was a bounce. Michele's personality makeover was a huge success ('scary' Michele was back for Hillary's speech, glowering as much as she was smiling) and Hillary did a search (for "me" and "I") and replace (with "Barack Obama") on her nomination acceptance speech, and knocked it out of the park.
Barack challenge is much more formidable... its relatively easy to go from "scary" to "not scary", but convincing people that you have substance when you already have the reputation for "giving good speeches" but not much else is going to be a lot tougher --- especially when you're standing in front of a temple to your own ego facing 75,000 groupies who like the "hits" and don't want to hear the "new material"....
So remember folks, according to Xi, asking your supporters to call into a call-in radio show is "squashing free inquiry and reasonable debate". Next up, he'll lecture us about how letters to the editor are a national security threat.
CB: No, not personally I don't. For the record, I think what he did has killed his political career. However, we also need to hold McCain accountable for his opportunistic philandering.

"It's what COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS do in Chicago" . . . . . LOL, Obama is Capone!
"he gived a good speech about nothing" . . . . . Yes, but how would you grade it for grammar, Genius?

What's all this Ayers nonsense. If guilt by association were in effect, Bush, Cheyney and McCain would be in jail because of Abramoff. And Cheney and Bush would be impeached because of Ken Lay. Now there's a thought . . . . . . This has to be the dumbest message stand ever.
McCain refused to define 'honor' for a Time interview? Weird. Did he forget? But what's typical is hearing that his camp thinks that we already have universal health care .... your local ER.

Genius, what do you have against lawyers, I mean all their jobs involve the law? Would you prefer they have a background in pottery or gardening?
All I'll say is this, we had 8 years of "leadership" from an underachiever who never too his book learning seriously. Do we honestly need a poor academy student and even worse pilot setting the agenda for the country. If you make $5mill a year by all means vote for McShame, if you care about your children and our international standing and morality choose Obama.

Xi, I bet if you looked hard enough, you might find that Obama once spoke fondly of some other radicals in their time.....our founding fathers. Now if you want to play guilt by association, should we also believe that John McCain will persecute Catholics and that he'll use Israel as a pawn to launch Armageddon?

Xi: If you're going to change the subject, you shouldn't expect me to read your mind. As I understand, there was an initial hiccup, but UIC released the papers in question.

What is all the hysteria about Ayers? He like most of his generation has become a mainstream establishment figure in Chicago. the right is setting him up as some type of bogeyman. Why can't Obama deal with him as most of the Chicago political establishment does, if McCain can meet with North Vietnamese murderers and torturers and tearfully hug them (a very disturbing photo, much like his sweaty hug of George W.) I've no doubt there are photos of Mayor Dailey with Ayers and probably some Republicans also.

Give up, Xi Jah. Liberals see no problem with shouting down opinions and facts that they cannot refute in direct debate. After all, the Obama camp was given the opportunity to be on the show and they declined. It would have sandbagged their orchestrated shout-down attempt.
Xi Jah is cool. XJ keeps it real...
Xi Jah is cool. XJ keeps it real...
Xi: You were talking about a radio show.. what does UIC have to do with that?
Be patient with Xi Jah. Repugs are used to having the messiah in their corner. This year they're stuck with a mere lazarus. Let's play along. Hitler wrote Mein Kampf, Obama wrote Audacity of Hope, aha! Hitler was half Jew, Obama's half white, oooooh, it's Gitmo for whitie! Ever notice how the phrases 'yes we can' and 'seig heil' have the letters s-e-e in common? oooooh.....
AHiredGun - Do you know John Edwards?
Forget the polls. How many people on here have ever participated in a poll? I did, once a few years back. Did not answer one question truthfully. Thought it was fun to yank their chain.

"Squashing free inquiry and reasonable debate....nothing like free speech comrades." Yikes, you better not turn on WIP then.
Xi: The radio show is a call-in show. People called in. There was no squashing of anything. If the callers were being disruptive, the host of the show could simply disconnect them, and screen the callers, like every other radio call-in show does.

This bounce will widen somewhat, especially as the whole country will be watching tonight. When McCain announces Romney as his running mate, and the GOP puts two men worth well over $100 MM on the same ticket, with enough kitchen tables to seat our city's homeless all at once, we'll find another little bounce.
Your gonna be hearing alot of "BOINGS" when the press hears Obama's speech tonight. Chris Matthews' tingle isn't gonna be up his leg.
PB - Will will ensure that we won't have a problem with the names. He is a man of conviction. On another note, the graphic is absolutely terrible. One bright piece of news -- the doors have opened in Denver for the the masses. Apparently, this night has been 53 years in the making in case anyone did not know.

"Bunch, I find it interesting that you didn't have a post about the polls when..." We all know that Will is biased. There is no pretense of objectivity on this blog.
shoeshine - Is that really going to be your thing for the next two months? That Will can't decide between his first or last name?
"Barack getting a bounce" is the title of this profound post. But the author refers to the candidate as Obama in the "body" of this post. In the words of Jeff Spicoli, "make up your mind, dude"
Bunch, I find it interesting that you didn't have a post about the polls when the Biden pick thrust McCain ahead of Obama. Obama will have his bounce, then McCain will get his. After the respective convention bounces, it will go back to being a close race. For once, I agree with Politburo. Ultimately, this is meaningless.

Or Rudy Giuliani... Or Mitt Romney... Or Fred "The Savior" Thompson... Or, you know, John McCain...
First Xi Jah anoints him the messiah, now he's calling him Hitler. I think there's an outbreak of Obama Derangement Syndrome. Its odd how much time these guys spend on bashing a "fringe" candidate who has "no shot" in November. It'd be like me focusing on Tom Tancredo.

You sold us Xi Jah, with that evidence there's no doubt he's a genocidal maniac.
So how exactly does that make your analogy "right"?
The Genius your Ugh says it all!!!!!

Still only up by 5 points in PA.
If he loses PA which I believe he will, the election is over.
The Corporate Controlled Media wants fluctuations in the polls. The tighter the race, the more revenue they receive.
Xi Jah: Psst! The convention isn't over yet. And it's a rolling poll, as I mentioned, so we really have to wait until Monday to get a true post-convention number.
Hey Genius: Your first word says it all for neo-cons: "Ugh". Get used to it. PS: I'm a lawyer too, and I'll match my ethics against anyone else's.
Looks like Obama is on the right side of a surge for a change.

And don't forget, because it's based on a 3-day roll, that means polls taken on Monday, before the convention, are still included in the total. Ultimately, though, this is meaningless, but Obama has also bumped in the state-level polls, as I described on the previous thread.
