Beck, Hannity dumped in Philly

There may or may not be a Tea Party revolution in America, but two of the right wing's top voices will be silenced here in Philadelphia -- at least for now.

The Big Talker-1210 is dumping Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity for more local content. Of course, there are less popular destinations on the AM dial -- 990 springs to mind -- that would likely jump at the chance to pick up Beck and Hannity, the third- and second-most listened-to radio talkers in America, so they may not be off the air here for long, or at all:

There is a big shakeup coming to local talk radio bastion 1210 The Big Talker, as the radio station is dropping Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity, and helping Michael Smerconish become a national figure.

Smerconish will not be on in the morning, as of January. He will move to a 3 p.m. to 7 p.m show, with the last three hours broadcast nationally.

Beck will also be dropped in January in favor of local radio staple Dom Giordano.

As a long-time Beck-basher, I should be thrilled at the move -- but then as a blogger I listen to Beck's show fairly often in trolling for new material, so I'm not as excited by this as you might think. On the other hand, I thought there was a real lack of good Philadelphia-centric talk on the radio, especially during the prime hours of the day. So from that local perspective, it's a good thing.

Next up, a liberal talk station in Philadelphia featuring Thom Hartmann and Stephanie Miller - hey, a guy can dream, can't he?
