Because everyone wants to crush the union

POSTED: Monday, February 28, 2011, 10:08 PM

Well, except for one group...

Americans:

Americans oppose weakening the bargaining rights of public employee unions by a margin of nearly two to one: 60 percent to 33 percent. While a slim majority of Republicans favored taking away some bargaining rights, they were outnumbered by large majorities of Democrats and independents who said they opposed weakening them.

Those surveyed said they opposed, 56 percent to 37 percent, cutting the pay or benefits of public employees to reduce deficits, breaking down along similar party lines. A majority of respondents who have no union members living in their households opposed both cuts in pay or benefits and taking away the collective bargaining rights of public employees.

There's also this:

Tax increases were not as unpopular among those surveyed as they are among many governors, who have vowed to avoid them. Asked how they would choose to reduce their state’s deficits, those polled preferred tax increases over benefit cuts for state workers by nearly two to one. Given a list of options to reduce the deficit, 40 percent said they would increase taxes, 22 percent chose decreasing the benefits of public employees, 20 percent said they would cut financing for roads and 3 percent said they would cut financing for education.

Of course, these Americans who were surveyed couldn't possibly represent the views of actual...Americans?

To be continued...

A poll from the same shady outfit that fabricates quotes and attributes them to "Americans for Prosperity" in order to advance the NYT's agenda. Their reporters lie, but their polling is beyond reproach. The NYT wold never let their agenda interfere in the sanctity of a poll.

thanks bill for checking on the poll. rush limbaugh said on fri to question likely vs reg voters or just people on the street. if they are just people on the street it doesn't matter. this is america if you want to count you need to vote. otherwise don't complain or if you do complain no one will care.

This vendetta against unions can be easily solved: STOP ALL POLITICAL CONTRIBUTIONS BY PUBLIC SECTOR WORKERS!! IT'S A COMPLETE CONFLICT OF INTEREST!! How can a politician take campaign contributions from the same people he's negotiating with?

"How can a politician take campaign contributions from the same people he's negotiating with?" . . . . Would you advocate eliminating all corporate contributions too? Take for example energy companies negotiating for drilling rights on public lands?

So the GOP/Fox War on Arithmetic is finally biting them in their collective butts. The only solution to the fiscal nightmare they've gotten us into is, in the words of Gov. Scott Walker, "Everybody should pay their fair share." I agree, it's time the millionaires, billionaires and corporations on the GOP tax-cutting gravy train paid their fair share. America's workers have been bled enough by the GOP.

So the views of actual Americans in a poll outweigh the views of actual Americans at the voting booth? I'm sure Republicans won the House and almost 700 seats at the state and local level because people are in love with public sector unions.

"IT'S A COMPLETE CONFLICT OF INTEREST!!" . . . . Few people remember that PATCO endorsed Reagan in 1980, who promised to address their grievances. Instead, Reagan offered them next to nothing, invoked Taft-Hartley and fired them when they voted to strike. He enjoyed 2/3 public support in the process. Some conflict, eh?

Wow, so less than a majority want to raise taxes. Does it say who they want to raise taxes on? Raise everyone's taxes, then repoll and tell me how low that percentage will fall. Its simple to want others to pay more, it requires no sacrifice.
