All of us -- myself included -- are still reeling emotionally from yesterday's nightmare in Tucson. We express our deep condolences are for those who lost loved ones. and we pray for those like Rep. Gabrielle Giffords who are fighting for their life. There will be plenty of time for talking about the rhetoric of rage in America, and when we do have that conversation I hope it will be a rational one. But this afternoon is a time to focus on grief and the tragedy of what was taken from this earth in just a matter of seconds.
The loss of Christina Green -- born in Pennsylvania on Sept. 11, 2001 -- is sad beyond belief.

Politicians wake up and think of a lot of things. As a parent im proud of a 9 year old child who wanted to make a change. Inspiration has come from this 9/11 baby. In this case its an emergency we change, not just as a nation, as a world. Bless the Green family, I been reading about the politics, I just wanted some light to shine on them. And yes, the man is sick, but it takes a Glenn Beck to march the weak-minded and Fox-informed right up to the edge of doing something evil. Right up to the edge. Of course he doesnt tell them what to do but he leads them to the edge and insinuates into their collective ears what they need to do.

- I don't know what the nutbag's politics were, but one thing I do think we should agree on is that the rhetoric and imagery such as placing a crosshairs on her district and talk of "2nd amendment solutions" for ridding political opponents needs to stop.— borncynic
- I'm not sure of the timing, but I would think the crosshairs thing simply meant that her seat was targeted during the last election. Its fairly common terminology in elections to say one party is targeting certain seats and incumbents. — RG
- We need to stop the Beckian calls to violence. You know, the 2nd Amendment solutions, claiming to be a "Progressive Hunter", telling the weak-minded and Fox imformed that the goverment is after them. Becks performance art is based on his ability to get the already paranoid right worked up into such a lather over their supposed "victimization". And when nuts like this take that last Beck induced step, we all wring our hands but refuse to say what it really is.
STOP! ENOUGH ALREADY!— Les Ismore - This guy was a Beck listener and Beck encouraged his audience to shoot Congressmen?? I don't recall ever seeing that in a news story. In related news, people are still blaming Ozzy Ozbourne for his song "Suicide Solution" in teen deaths. — IggleFan68

- I've never suggested Palin had any criminal intent, nor that sane people such as yourself would interpret it otherwise. But sane people also saw the danger in the imagery including Gifford herself.
- Imagery is now dangerous? Should we start looking at music, movies, and video games? — RG
- Apparently, crosshairs on a poster is sufficient for invoking violence. Making a movie where President Bush is assassinated, however... well that's just art.
- Please, by all means speak out against violence in art. That's what freedom is about. But if you consider Palin's campaigning simply an artistic work, why wasn't it reviewed as such?
