Assassination in AZ

All of us -- myself included -- are still reeling emotionally from yesterday's nightmare in Tucson. We express our deep condolences are for those who lost loved ones. and we pray for those like Rep. Gabrielle Giffords who are fighting for their life. There will be plenty of time for talking about the rhetoric of rage in America, and when we do have that conversation I hope it will be a rational one. But this afternoon is a time to focus on grief and the tragedy of what was taken from this earth in just a matter of seconds.
The loss of Christina Green -- born in Pennsylvania on Sept. 11, 2001 -- is sad beyond belief.
- We'd see the "insanity (paranoia) crossing" sign and slow down. I think that will happen.
- We? Insane people don't follow signs like other people. Point being, if there were no Sarah Palin, no Tea Party, etc. there's a good chance this dude would have still been crazy and dangerous. The end target may have been different, but his paranoia would have still existed.
RG - We'd be discussing rational gun control and how we treat our mentally ill without calling each other fascists or commies. Care to begin?
- Oh, so Laughner's mental illness was missed in all the name calling? WTF are you even trying to say? There were plenty of signs he was insane, but there is zero evidence that they were missed because people were calling each other names.
RG - How do we know the signs weren't missed? He was still able to purchase a semi-automatic pistol and ammo while so visibly insane, even after the first WalMart turned him down for that reason. Yet, try to discuss Arizona's liberal gun laws without name-calling, and you're drowned out. The NRA has you marked with a single letter grade, as if that's all you need to know about the issue, and you're branded an enemy of the constitution. Do you agree?
- He shouldn't have had a gun, but using this as an indictment of gun laws is missing the point. If he was that determined, he would have found a way to purchase a gun regardless of laws.
RG - No, the point is we can discuss it rationally without name-calling and facile labeling, and maybe find a solution. Thanks for not calling me a fascist commie for even broaching the subject.
- And the more hypothetical discussion we have about limiting gun ownership, the more that feeds into the paranoia of those like Laughner. His writings mentioned his civil liberties being eroded.
RG - So, political speech does have an impact after all. Now you see the need to be responsible?
I think jmc is correct. There are so many on the Left who are acting like political vultures. Thoughtful&concernedvoter
My thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims of this senseless tragedy. While this guy was clearly mentally ill, I have no doubt that the vitriol of hate that has engulfed AZ over the past few years has contributed. From nitwits like Sharon Angle's "Second Amendment solution" to Palin's cross hairs on Gifford's office to the Tea Baggers trashing Gifford's Office, they are responsible for their words and actions. But we know the party of responsibility is not about being accountable to themselves. They are never at fault. The Fundamentals of the Economy are Fine
Comment removed.
Accountable is accountable. The rantings and hate-fueled vitriol from that fat pig Limberger and Gland Blech, added to the NRA-pistol packing "conservative" lunatic (because that's what he was -a self indentified con terrorist), and this is what you get. And yes, there is PLENTY of accountability in the "conservative" world for this. Funny that he was against healthcare reform - he just made sure a whole lot of people need it.......Four years ago the DoJ came out with a report that "american extremists", not "americam MUSLIM extremists", were the biggest terrorist threat to this country. Blech and Limberger were apoplectic. Looks like the DoJ was right. CiceroSpuriousDeodatus- Name calling and incoherent rambling, well done. First, Laughner's anger toward the Congresswoman goes back to an encounter he had with her in 2007. So it has little to do with HCR. Second, the guy was also a truther and expressed anger toward Bush. But keep trying to score cheap political points on which side "owns" him. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gutbUc8KWEv3iMUewPN445D4uSYw?docId=c09a07a17e1b4aaa82815779cbf6f758
