Meanwhile, the Washington Post has a good story about the debate inside the White House about how to handle the right-wing noise machine.

"In a world with Fox News and Rush Limbaugh and the Drudge Report and everything else that makes up the right-wing noise machine, nothing is clean and nothing is simple," a senior administration official said. "You don't stomp a story out. You ride the wave and try to steer it to safe water."

Sounds right -- a free press means these outlets have a right to exist and also a right to spread nonsense (as long as it's not libelous, of course). If it is nonsense, you just need to drown it out with facts. That's not easy...but nothing ever is.
