America is still No. 1...

...in the number of people behind bars. Arlen Specter hasn't been particularly good about keeping his word these days, but I hope he follow through on his plan to work with (now fellow) Democrat Jim Webb on real prison and justice reform in this country.

- "make prison so bad no one would want to go back" . . . . . . Yeah, I'll bet Martha Stewart is committing a fraud right now just so she can return to the good life at Camp Cupcake.
"Phrosty you forgot to paste and build more execution blocks , I like that option best" ««---- Well, they're more cost effective at least! (Presuming you get to use them instead of the lengthy, costly appeals process. Oh, and presuming the State only executes the guilty. I'm certain the expense of wrongful death suits would cause the cost to skyrocket!!) Phrossty
Did that tax deadbeat Joe the fake plumber ever pay his back taxes? chasing history
The Genius - I can't remember the comic's name, but I remember a great routine. "Boy, it's like they try to make it nice to be locked up these days. You get 3 squares a day, free cable TV, fully equiped gym & exercise yard for free, free legal counsel, free education all without having to hold a job! It sounds like a really good deal! Heck! I'd consider it.... if it weren't for that AΝAL RAPE thing!!! Phrossty

Comment removed.- It is very easy for the right wingnuts to spout these comments about how easy prison is and to point to isolated cases of violent criminals as justification for their views. But they live in a Boys Life version of America. They have no touch with reality. They have never walked the streets of the parts of town where folks on welfare supposedly live an easy, high on the hog life. They have never actually been in a prison, or in the justice system, for that matter. And when they do find themselves in the system, they can afford good lawyers and are able to buy the justice they claim exists for everyone, but which they really would prefer to deny to anyone with less money or a diferent skin color than themselves. People with a grasp of reality would be ashamed to see those numbers. But to the right, it is just another case of Whoopee! We're Number One! They are selfish to the point of greed, uncaring to the point of insensitive, and ignorant of anything that does not fit their narrow preconceived view of some alternate reality.
