What is it the marginalized minority misses most? The profligate federal spending? The expansion of federal authority? The restriction of constitutional rights? The largest deficits ever? The unfunded federal education mandates? Two wars paid on credit cards? The expansion of the size of the federal government to it's largest point ever? The holding hands while walking through flowers with islamic foreign royalty? The bank bailouts? There's really just so much to choose from... Do tell! E.Plebnista
Bush? Obama? What's the difference? Two big spenders who like one-world government and care little about the Constitution. My guess is that Jefferson wouldn't like either one of them. Mark Glaeser- I'd rather get rid of Will and the Attytood section because frankly, it stinks. I don't get the whole "Attytood" thing, it's stupidity made to be a Philly thing? Will bunch is like a leech, sucking money out of the pockets of the daily news. He's horrible! I can't wait until you get fired, Will. The fact that you collect a paycheck to spew your regurgitated left wing opinions is beyond belief. No doubt you're a card carrying union member too, right. You stink! And, by the way, Obama is even worse than Bush. Yes we can! Yes we can! Hope shmope! They all need to be fired because the whole system is corrupt. Elections should be federally funded so that a candidate can't buy his or her way into an elected position and then owe their backers in the way of political favors.
beato, tell us what you really think. Then answer the friggin question. mike l
Jefferson: "The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not"..."I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them"..." My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government". jimmymack
Jimmymack (and Thos J) have it exactly right. Today's partisans wrestly between Democrats and Republicans, yet they are both too far from the ideals for which this country was founded. A government that can give you everything can take everything. Mark Glaeser

jmc - then there's really nothing to miss about Bush, is there? Is the answer really to return to the people who put us in this mess? I realize that the GOP mantra is "hey, you effed up, you trusted us - maybe we can help?" but the American people (aside from the marginalized minority) are too smart for that. So go prance around revelling in special election wins, because you can't win the big ones. E.Plebnista- "A government that can give you everything can take everything" . . . Alas, the Constitution that Jefferson helped write gives Congress the power to tax and spend to provide for the general welfare, in addition to national defense, leaving the meaning of 'general welfare' to the political process.
"but the American people (aside from the marginalized minority) are too smart for that." Luckily, they're also too smart for the garbage that was health care reform and cap and trade. RG
Imagine if the dems had 7 members craft a bill that Bush agreed to sign, and then those same 7, whose bill was presented, voted against it. Their own bill. Why? Because Bush happened to agree with it....Which is why it is so funny watching these idiots act like their elected leaders are actually DOING something, other than obstruct progress....On another note, how funny are the tea baggings? Man, it's like watching intellectually (and stylistically) challenged kids play house, except they try to play government. It was just like watching the "angry crowds" in South Park episodes....."Rabble rabble rabble rabble rabble"..."They took our JOBS!"...All that's missing is a disgruntled Toby Keith. enabler1
