Elmer Smith weighs in on the Foot Hood massacre:

That trail will go cold. The committee will find only the most tenuous connections between Hassan and any terrorist affiliations just as it has found no terrorist links on his computers.

But it will issue a detailed report. Its findings will be preserved in the annotated archives of mass murder and draw dust until the next spring-loaded nut job spins out of control and starts mowing down innocent bystanders.

We can always come up with something from the catalog of homicidal motivations to rationalize the irrational. Was it a family feud or a money dispute?

But there is no "real reason" for a psychopath to make himself the arbiter of life and death.

Basically, I agree -- although I think there are some caveats that I'll be adding later, This afternoon's a travel day for me, and full-time blogging finally resumes tonight, Until then, consider this an open thread to discuss what's happening. Other than the agony and the ecstasy of health care reform, unemployment topping 10 percent, more fallout from Fort Hood, the end of the SEPTA srike, a bunch of expected and unexpected Phillies moves and that other Philadelphia sports franchise That Shall Not Be Named, I didn't really miss anything in my time away, did I?

Didn't miss much. I didn't go on any airplane trips.

Only liberals could choose to ignore the motivations of this guy and simply blame it on just another "psychopath". He is NOT just another psychopath. He had reached out a radical Imam with connections to Al Quaeda based in Yemen. HELLLLOOOOO? Anyone home?

Can someone explain to me how Andy Reid still has a job calling plays in the NFL after that boneheaded decision to punt the ball on Sunday night?

Liberals are praying that there is no Islamic terrorist connection to the Fort Hood killings, because we all know what that would mean for the hope and change express.

By the converse, jmc - it seems that "conservatives" such as yourself are praying that there is an Islmaic terrorist connection to the killings, because presumably, you think there would be some political advantage if there is? Nothing like turning a tragedy into a political football, eh?

Did I see it reported that as the story was breaking, some NY Times reported said, "I hope his name is Smith." The liberal media likes to portray itself as speaking truth to power. But in fact the liberal media can't handle the truth and hasn't the courage to speak truth to radical Islam.

Nothing like turning a tragedy into a political football, eh?" Exactly right Tps! Those knuckledraggers on the right know no bounds when given a chance to pillory the left. The opposite is would never happen however. We know that the left would never stoop so low as to turn a tragedy into a potical football. They wouldn't do it with 9/11 (nevermind all that nonsense about the 8/6/01 PDB or My Pet Goat or...well just nevermind all that stuff that the left would never bring up.) They wouldn't do it with Katrina. They wouldn't do it with the economic reversal of 08. They simply would never do that stuff that the reprehensible right wing will do with this tragedy!

To all you in the "Obama is a leftist extremist" crowd: You can have your cake now and eat it too. You get the same old Bush policies but now you get to complain about the President. Looks like Obama is going to authorize the "surge" in Afghanistan. Wow, he's such a lefty. maybe he wants to overrun Afghanistan and push for a Communist regime change. Worse yet, I hear he actually wants them to have health care and human services. Sure, that must be it.

Wow! Bad mood today, legatus? Who ever said "the left" wouldn't turn tragedy into a political football? Ignoring that I was specific in my remarks ("conservatives" such as yourself), because I know that not all conservatives would seek to capitalize politically off of tragedy - (and you, on the other hand, made a broad characterization of "the left"), once again, your lame defense of a "conservative" doing something undesirable amounts to "Mommy, mommy, they did it FIIIRRRSSST Mommy."

It's spelled you're not your. It is is called a "contraction" in the possessive form for the words you are. Conservatives are grammar terrorists.
